Former 'The Voice' Finalist Stops in VC

August 1, 2014

A musician and former finalist on NBC's "The Voice" stopped in Valley City while on tour Wednesday. Nicholas David, a soul singer/songwriter, stopped to see Terry and Vicky Jones, owners of Vicky's Viking Room, who he called friends of his family.

He stopped by the restaurant to visit with the pair and their family and also performed a few songs for the crowd of about 20.

16U Opens Northern Nationals

Valley City 16U softball endured a rough Thursday of pool play at the Northern National Championship in Bismarck, N.D., falling 14-0 in four innings to the Dakota Fury of Sioux Falls, S.D., and 12-2 to Muscoda’s Wisconsin Xplozion.

Such results, however, can serve as tune-ups for Friday’s tournament.

Nothin' But a No. 4 Seed Thang: Post 60 Beats Watford City, Reaches State Quarterfinals

Upsets are unexpected for an East No. 4 seed, but Legion Post 60’s filling that demand.

Valley City, on the roll that head coach Kyle Roelfsema envisioned entering Regionals in Grafton, N.D., took down a second paper giant in as many days on Thursday at the Class A State Tournament in Wahpeton, N.D.

A day after overthrowing West No. 1 Beulah, 10-8, despite trailing 7-3 through a frame, Post 60 put up five runs in Thursday’s first to beat West No. 3 Watford City, 7-4.

Members of Valley City's Rotary Club this year opened their hearts beyond Barnes County, choosing to sponsor Gabi Ostgaard, who lost both parents to carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a faulty furnace at their home in Crookston, Minn. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

Wes Anderson, curator of the Barnes County Historical Society Museum agreed to start off the series and give our readers an idea what we are hoping will be submitted with this photo from the museum archives.

Photos can be of events or places in Barnes County from 10, 20, 30 years ago, or even older. We will publish at least one submitted photograph every week in the Valley City Times-Record.
