Relay for Life and VCSU Football Unite Saturday

In recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Barnes County Relay For Life partners with Valley City State football to raise awareness of the significance of cancer in the community and to work together to raise funds to fight the disease.

Barnes County Relay for Life encourages the community to join them at Shelly Ellig Field at Lokken Stadium at 3 p.m. Saturday for the Valley City State football game against Dickinson State to cheer on the Vikings and to join in the fight against cancer.

Free Throw Hoop Shot Contest Nov. 1

St. Catherine’s Knights of Columbus will sponsor a free throw hoop shoot contest on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., the contest, open to all boys and girls ages 10 to 14, at 10 a.m.

Participants must have reached their 10th birthday by Jan. 1, 2014, or not have turned 15 after Jan. 1, 2014. All participants must complete a registration form and bring a copy of their birth certificate to the contest. Registration forms are available Saturday, Nov. 1 at the HAC.

Oakes Volleyball Sweeps LMM

Cheyanne Elsner led Litchville-Marion/Montpelier with eight digs, three kills and two blocks against visiting District 5 rival Oakes on Saturday, but the Tornadoes swept the match, 3-0 (25-5, 25-18, 25-13).

Rhandi Larson went for four digs, two assists, a block and an ace for the Rebels, Morgan Smith three aces, two kills and a dig, Sam Hofmann four digs and a block, Morgan Gentzkow four digs, Tierra Velure two digs and two blocks, and Danyelle Eichele a dig.

Enderlin Volleyball Claws Barnes County North

Jayda Haugen led Barnes County North with 24 assists, 11 digs and three aces at home Monday night against Enderlin, but Jacquelyn McCleary’s 31 assists helped the Eagles hang on for a 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-17) win.

Lexi Rose had 29 digs and an assist for the Bison, Sam Wieland 16 digs and seven kills, Laura Limesand 15 digs, three aces and two assists, Allison Klein 13 digs, Abby Undem 12 kills and a block, Shelby Brown five kills and a block, and Hannah Willson five kills.

Nix Bowls 15-for-15; Hi-Liner/Bison Varsity 2-1

After winning Saturday’s first two games against the West Fargo Strikes at Sky Lanes, 176-129 and 186-175, Valley City/Barnes County North’s Varsity platoon of Laine Schwehr, Austin Lura, Collin Lura, Drew Oberlander, Levi Nix and Matthew Lyter struggled with hitting the pocket and dropped the next three contests, 181-145, 177-170 and 217-161.

Timothy “Timmy” Ralph Archambeau, age 63 died Oct. 9, 2014 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 AM Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City with Rev. Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday. Burial with military honors will take place Monday Oct. 20, 2014 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery at Mandan, ND. Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

BC Jail Fence Fixed

The Barnes County Sheriff's Department has repaired the fence around the Barnes County jail exercise area, Sgt. Julie Forsman told Barnes County Commissioners at a Tuesday meeting. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

BC Property Taxes Cut

Barnes County residents should see a decrease in property taxes in 2015 as a result of county commissioners Thursday evening approving a $16,795,646 million preliminary expense budget, a 3.32 percent decrease from the 2014 actual budget. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.
