Coit, Hi-Liners Rope Packers

Sam Coit’s 41 assists lifted Valley City over West Fargo, 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22) on the road Tuesday in a two-point Eastern Dakota Conference win, the Hi-Liners’ 11th straight including Saturday’s Optimist Tournament championship and 12th in their last 15 matches.

Claire Olson came away with 18 kills, 11 digs and a block, Brenna Dieterle 13 kills and a block, Charlotte Huschka 11 digs and an ace, Bekah Peterson eight digs and three aces, Ellie Winter seven kills, Madison McDaniel four aces, and Sadie Klingenberg an ace.

BROTHERS AND BULLS: Bull-Riding Brothers Qualify for Badlands Circuit Finals

For Jeff and Joe Bertus, brotherly love goes along with rodeo.

The brothers are both bull riders, and are good at it, too; both are ranked in pro rodeo’s regional standings for the Dakotas, the Badlands Circuit, as No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

They grew up in Avon, S.D., with Jeff the elder brother by two years. After
the boys watched the movie “Eight Seconds,” featuring bull rider Lane Frost, they fell in love with the thought of bull riding.

“We thought it was the coolest thing in the world,” Joe said.

Warrant Wednesday: Eronna Marie "Dutchess" Laroque

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Eronna Marie "Dutchess" Laroque is wanted on a bench warrant for failure to participate in the 24/7 program resulting from original charges of driving while license is suspended, a class B misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor or drugs, a class B misdemeanor.

Laroque, 27, is a native American female with brown hair and brown eyes. She is five feet, nine inches tall and weighs 165.

CCHD Requests $623K for 2015

Ruckus at the Rec Set for Oct. 17; Volunteers Needed

Costumes, candy, prizes and plenty of fun ruckus will soon emerge at the Valley City Recreation Center Gymnasium during the 10th annual Ruckus at the Rec Halloween celebration, held by Valley City Parks and Recreation District on Friday, Oct. 17 from 6-8 p.m. In order to make the free event possible, volunteers are needed. Tower City Man Injured in Crash in Cooperstown

A Tower City man was injured in a crash Monday around 4 p.m. when the 2004 Chevrolet pickup he was driving struck a 1989 GMC pickup driven by a Cooperstown man who failed to stop at a stop sign.

A release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol says Robert Roth, 55, Tower City, was driving his pickup eastbound on Highway 200 through Cooperstown when David Hoverson, 67, of Cooperstown, who was northbound on a county road drove through a stop sign at Highway 200.

Girl Scouts Address Rec Center Street Danger

Girls from Girl Scout Troop 30830 in Valley City believe speeding traffic on the street in front of the Valley City Recreation Center is dangerous to kids and adults crossing from the Valley City Recreation Center on Fourth Street Southeast to the parking lot on the opposite side of the street, so they've taken steps to remedy what they think is a serious problem in their community while earning an award in the process.
