Postal Service to Stop Saturday Delivery

February 7, 2013

The United States Postal Service announced Wednesday plans to transition to a new delivery schedule that will end regular mail delivery Saturdays on street and rural routes.

“Right now, the new change at this time is scheduled to start the week of Aug. 5,” Valley City Postmaster Sherry Johnson said, adding that the schedule is still tentative to change.

“That being said, mail will continue to be delivered to post office box customers just as is, so if you have a P.O. box, you won’t notice a change,” Johnson said.

JAMESTOWN — When the Valley City State University womens basketball team hosted Jamestown College last week, the 17-point loss wasn’t what the Vikings had in mind.
Wednesday at the Jamestown Civic Center, the Vikings had a result more their style, getting strong post play offensively, while limiting the Jimmies’ inside scoring to upset the No. 13 Jimmies 54-48 on their home court.
“It was a good game,” Valley City coach Jill DeVries said. “Neither team played particularly well, I would say, but that’s okay. We got to come away with the win.”

Viking Men Lose to Jamestown in OT

February 7, 2013

JAMESTOWN — The No. 19 Valley City State University mens basketball teams had plenty of ups and downs in a 66-65 overtime loss to Jamestown College Wednesday at the Jamestown Civic Center.
But in the end, the rubber match between the two teams was seemingly decided in each team's final possession.
Though the plays were similar, the team's ace guard driving for a layup, the difference lied in a foul call that sent Jamestown's Mark Hoge to the foul line, where it hit the two free throws that decided the game.
