UPDATE: Man Identified in Litchville Rollover

Rodney Vaders was identified as the 71-year-old Litchville man who was killed Tuesday afternoon after his vehicle entered a ditch and rolled. Around 3:30 p.m. Vaders was driving a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette convertible westbound on a straight level portion of paved Barnes County Road 38, about half a mile north of Litchville, when his vehicle gradually drifted into the north ditch, according to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The vehicle then rotated clockwise and rolled.

Drug Warrants Lead to 7 Arrests

Seven suspects were arrested in Valley City on a total of 20 narcotic-related charges late last month.
According to a press release from the Valley City Police Department, during the week of September 25, the Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force, which serves Stutsman, Barnes, LaMoure, Foster and Eddy Counties, served five narcotics-related searches in Valley City resulting in 17 felony charges and three misdemeanor charges that will be filed by the Barnes County State's Attorney against seven suspects.

Ruckus at the Rec Set for Oct. 25

Valley City Parks and Recreation will hold the ninth annual Ruckus at the Rec on Friday, Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Recreation Center gym.
"This is a free event safe for children to where costumes and have fun," said Diane Sommerfeld of Parks and Rec. “Ruckus at the Rec is an exciting variety of carnival games for all children ages pre-school through 6th grade to participate in with prizes for everyone."

Commission Awards Grant to NDWS

The Valley City City Commission approved a food and beverage grant of $75,000 for the North Dakota Winter Show during its regular meeting Monday.
The funds will pay for a portion of repairs to roof trusses that were damaged by snow in 2011, and will be used to build horse stalls which could assist in bringing more off-season events to the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center, according to Bobby Koepplin, chairman of the Valley City Visitor's Committee.

Barnes Rural Water gets $4.5 Million

Barnes Rural Water was awarded a grant of $4.5 million from the Water Resources Trust Fund for local projects.
Of that, $3.3 million will go toward connecting new customers within the Barnes Rural Water district, which covers and area from Tower City to Spiritwood and from Sutton to Verona, according to Barnes Rural Water Manager Perry Kapaun.
The cost to lay pipe to connect new customers is $25,000 to $30,000 per mile, said Kapaun. Grant money will be used to offset the cost to provide rural residents with an alternative to well water.

Litchville Man Dies in Rollover

The vehicle then rotated clockwise and rolled. The driver was ejected, and the vehicle and driver came to rest in a soybean field.

Lady Hi-Liners Take Down Fargo North

No. 6 Lady Hi-Liner volleyball faced No. 4 Fargo North in Valley City on Tuesday night, for an Eastern Dakota Conference clash with a lot to say about EDC Tournament seeding. With a win, the Hi-Liners would pull within half a game of North and draw ever closer to challenging Fargo South for the fourth seed and guaranteed homecourt advantage throughout the tournament.

Valley City did just that, beating North 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-14, 25-19).

VCHS Winter Sports Announcements

October 8, 2013

Valley City High School will conduct winter sports baseline concussion testing for all 7th-graders, 10th-graders and any athlete who had a concussion last year, Nov. 4 at 3:30 p.m. in the JH Mac Lab. Athletes in fall sports have already completed this testing and do not have to do it again this year.

Churches, Library Burglarized

Over the past several weeks, several Valley City churches and the Valley City Barnes County Public Library were burglarized with an undisclosed amount of money taken. A break-in attempt was also reported at another church.
Trinity Lutheran Church, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the library were all burglarized the weekend of Sept. 28 and 29 and Faith Lutheran Church was burglarized on Oct. 6. A failed break-in attempt was also reported at the First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Comedian Planned for VCSU Rendezvous

The second annual Valley City State University Rendezvous is set for October 18, and those in attendance should expect an eventful night beginning with a comedy show and ending with karaoke.
The headlining act this year is comedian Chad Daniels, and opening for him is Fargo-based comedian Jason Jacobson. After their show Big Hammer Karaoke will be set up for those who want to take the stage.
