Valley Cityâ€™s 5th-Grade Traveling Boys Basketball team took first place at Saturdayâ€™s Jamestown Spring Shootout.
Team members include Jared Eggermont, Drew Zaun, Carson McGough, Jack Ingstad, Blake Triebold, Derrek Diegel, Alex Thornton and Peyton Zaun, coached by Kevin Eggermont and Jason Thornton.
Valley City State womenâ€™s basketball coach Cathy Hanek has resigned, VCSU announced Monday.
Hanek, who took over the Vikings last summer following longtime head coach Jill DeVriesâ€™s departure, steps down after coaching the Vikings for one season and compiling a 13-12 overall record. VCSU posted a third-place 3-5 record in North Star Athletic Association play.
A search for Hanekâ€™s replacement will begin immediately, VCSU athletic
director Jack Denholm said.
A six-run Viking first inning and a solid pitching performance led Valley City State baseball to a 12-2 victory over Middlebury College on Sunday in Tucson, Ariz.
The win salvaged a split day for the Vikings, who earlier dropped an 8-0 contest to Oberlin College. VCSU is now 9-16 overall and 5-9 in their Spring Trip.

Viking junior right-hander Lindsey White is the North Star Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week.
White, of Menahga, Minn., posted a 3-1 record this week as she helped the Vikings to a 5-4 record over their last six days in Tucson, Ariz. Whiteâ€™s ERA for the week was a sparkling 1.29 as she allowed just five earned runs in 27 total innings.
Viking sophomore right fielder Brady Anderson is the North Star Athletic Association Baseball Player of the Week.
Anderson, a Jamestown native, batted .400 with a .575 slugging percentage and 10 runs driven in to help Valley City State to a 3-6 record last week in Tucson, Ariz. He posted 16 hits in nine games, including three doubles and two triples and five scored runs. His best game came in a 12-2 victory over Middlebury as he went 4-for-6 at the plate, scored a run and drove in four more.
The District 24 Republicans held a breakfast get-together in Valley City Saturday with North Dakota Representative Dwight Kiefert on-hand to meet with constituents. Budget Burger restaurant was the venue for Kiefert and District 24 officials to meet and greet area residents.

City Park's band shell that was damaged from two floods will soon get a new foundation, which marks the first phase of making the structure safe again for the community to use. Tyler Jacobson, director of Valley City Parks and Recreation, said Friday that they've awarded contracts for the construction of the new foundation and moving of the band shell sometime this spring.
Barnes County officials are united in an effort to continue having a Southeast Judicial District judge based in Valley City after Judge John T. Paulson retires June 3. More in Monday's Times-Record.
The Buffalo Sharpshooters and their family members were in Doland, S.D. for the Spink County BB Gun Invitational on Saturday March 1, in which 190 BB Gun shooters from three states competed.
The Sharpshooters, made up of Katie Zaun, Emma Tichy, Connor Drogen, Molly Anderson and Abigail VonBank, took first place as a team in the 10-to-11-Year-Old category.
