Members of the Valley City High School Hi-Liner Choir did well at Friday's Class A State Vocal Music Contest in Jamestown Friday, receiving nine State Superior Star Ratings and seven Excellent No. 1 Ratings. The school had 16 entries in the contest, and the choir has 60 members. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.
A dedication ceremony was held for the new Barnes County North school Monday afternoon. Several guests spoke to students, faculty, staff, parents and more about their new $14.5 million facility that opened this school year.

Valley City freshman Elly Milender, of Jamestownâ€™s Blue Jay hockey team, joined Team North Dakota, coached by the University of North Dakota standouts Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux, as North Dakota finished fourth with a 1-3 record in April 24-26â€™s CCM High School National Invitational Tournament at the Plymouth Ice Center in Plymouth, Minn.
North Dakota yielded two goals in the second period, another in the third and a short-handed third-period goal in Thursdayâ€™s 4-0 opening loss to the Minnesota Seniors.
Valley City State senior right-hander Samantha Nalley is the North Star Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week, the NSAA announced Monday.
Nalley, the 5-foot-10-inch Pocatello, Idaho native, tossed a complete game as the Vikings swept Dakota State in Saturdayâ€™s home doubleheader.
Nalley threw seven innings in the 5-1 game one win, giving up only a run on six hits and notching three strikeouts.
Valley City State senior Brittany Lehner is the North Star Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week alongside Jamestown sophomore Emily Newman, the NSAA announced Monday.
Lehner, the 5-foot-11-inch Watertown, S.D. native, batted 6-for-7 at the plate with two runs, a home run and four RBIs as the Vikings swept Dakota State in Saturdayâ€™s doubleheader. Lehner landed game-tying RBI singles in both the fourth and fifth innings, hit the second of two sixth-inning back-to-back home runs with senior teammate Liz Hall-Swell in a 10-6 win, and finished with a slugging percentage of 1.286.
Two males fleeing an alleged strong armed robbery in Jamestown were caught in Barnes County Friday after a chase that involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
The chase began in Jamestown after the pair, a 37-year-old man and a juvenile, reportedly knocked a woman down in the Perkins parking lot and stole her purse at about 6 p.m. A nearby citizen followed the suspects' vehicle from the parking lot and gave dispatchers a license number, according to Jamestown Police Sgt. Thomas Nagel.
A semi accident left a Nebraska man injured Tuesday when he lost control of the vehicle on Highway 1 south of Valley City.
Joshua Thompson, 29, of Lisco, Neb., was southbound on Highway 1, about 15 miles south of I-94, pulling an air seeder on a flatbed trailer when a wind gust of up to 40 miles per hour caused the vehicle to drift onto the west shoulder and partially into the west ditch, according to Sergeant Tom Herzig of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Kathryn voters Wednesday overwhelmingly approved shutting down the town's water department and going with the Barnes Rural Water District as their provider in a Wednesday election, said Mayor David Majerus. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.
