I am on a quest to find out. Maybe you, the Valley City Times Record readers can assist me.
I was the passenger as that husband of mine drove us home. Lately we’ve been traveling on short trips to and fro so not to get depressed. We are living proof that if you just keep moving your mind can’t hijack your joy. While he drives – I wonder. Bet you never knew I did that, did ya?
The Kiwanis Club of Jamestown is looking for donations and volunteers for its third Kids Against Hunger food packaging event to be held in March.
The event will take place on March 2, at the Buffalo Mall in Jamestown. Event co-chair Janna Bergstedt hopes to raise $30,000 and have 250 volunteers to package meals for those less fortunate.
The Valley City Fire Department will hold their annual smoker Friday evening at the Veterans of Foreign Wars club in Valley City.
The annual fundraiser starts at 6 p.m. and the entrance fee is $10.
“We try to put the money (raised) towards certain equipment we need, smaller items like flashlights and small tools, something that we need that we use quite often,” Fire Chief Gary Retterath said. “Just so we can keep up with the equipment, make sure we have the equipment we need.”
During the smoker, the VCFD does raffles and sells bacon, ham, groceries and guns.
“What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the beats also happens to the man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth also befalls the sons of the earth.”
The words were written by a North American Indian and posted on the gate of a large beef ranch. Dr. Gerald Stokka, veterinarian and North Dakota State University Extension livestock stewardship expert, used it as an example of why dairy farmers need to practice good stewardship during the regional Dairy Cow College.

CASSELTON — For the last two years, the No. 4 Maple Valley High School girls basketball team has operated like a well-oiled machine.
The formula essentially comes down to Rylee Nudell setting the tone with plenty of points in the paint, then getting a bit of assistance from a deep supporting cast.
But Thursday at Central Cass, the home Squirrels threw a wrench into the equation, putting Nudell at a major size disadvantage, then keeping her guards from getting open looks in a 54-34 loss for the Raiders.
Clay S. Jenkinson left North Dakota in 1973 for college, and while he visited frequently, he didn’t move back to his beloved home for 25 years. The North Dakota he left had changed, it was not the same “clunky wheat state of his youth.”
Jenkinson had changed too.
“Am I still a North Dakotan?” he asked himself in the essay “Clay Jenkinson: a Native Son’s Letter from the Plains,” one in a book of Jenkinson’s essays that began as columns in the Bismarck Tribune.

The student body at Valley City State University has officially taken over sponsorship of the Valley City 2013 Daffodil Days campaign, said Michaela Halvorson, secretary of the VCSU Student Senate.
Halvorson, a freshman, said VCSU Science Professor Hilde van Gijssel proposed students pick up the responsibility from Bank Forward.
Bank Forward’s Deb Kohler decided to pass the torch after three years of chairing the event for the bank.
During the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days, donors are given daffodils in appreciation of their contributions.
Local Girl Scouts will soon begin their annual cookie sales again. Quiana Steele, new Daisy troop leader, said her girls, ages 5 and 6, will have booths set up all around Valley City.
“The opening day (Feb. 9) we’ll be at the basketball game” at Valley City State University, and a booth will be set up at one of the grocery stores in Valley City.
“The girls are allowed to go door-to-door to sell the cookies, so you’ll probably see a lot of that coming up,” Steele said.
