2 teens finalists in driver contest

Two students at Valley City High School are among five finalists for the billboard competition in the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s ND Teen Driver Contest, however their names will not be released until the contest is over.

This will be the third annual contest the NDDOT has put on in partnership with AAA North Dakota and the North Dakota Safety Council, and VCHS students have become a common sight in the finals.

Ticket Sales good for VCSU auction

The Valley City State University Foundation looks to have another success on its hands for the 18th annual VCSU Scholarship Auction this Friday.

As of Tuesday, the Foundation had sold all 525 tickets for the event, which has now sold out four years running and consistently raised funds in the $60,000 range for both the V-500 and Century Club Scholarship programs. The net profits are split 50/50 between the two programs.

Teach for the stars: VCSU planetarium class shares its talents

In a pitch-dark room on the third floor of VCSU’s Rhoades Science Center, a small group of students meets weekly to gaze at the night sky.
With their necks craned back and their eyes fixed on the heavenly dome of North Dakota’s only planetarium, the class uses laptops and a projection control panel to play a stellar show that they have created from start to finish.

“Finding Polaris II” is an instructional tour through the night sky that was written, voiced and produced by students in instructor Wes Anderson’s Planetarium Science Class.

VCHS softball gets a sweep
The Valley City High School softball team got a good all-around effort in a sweep of Fargo South Tuesday in Fargo.
The Hi-Liners won 13-0 and 12-0 against the Bruins, combining for 19 hits, while their pitchers allowed two.
Keely Fogarty pitched eight of the ten innings played in the two games, allowing two hits the first game and none in the second. Jessica Denholm relieved her in the second game and kept the no-hitter going.

Solid start ends in 23-1 loss for Hi-Liner baseball team

Amidst the numerous high scoring losses the Valley City High School baseball team has faced this season, the attitude at Charlie Brown Memorial Field can be a little off at times.
But early in the second game of a sweep to Fargo South, things perked up momentarily.
“The kids were excited,” coach Trevar Hansen said. “They played harder and more excited. I thought it was way different.”
It didn’t last long, as the Hi-Liners lost 23-1 to the Bruins, but the feeling was there.

Local volleyball team wins in Wahpeton

The Valley City JO U14 volleyball team took home the silver division championship at the Meagan Berg Tournament in Wahpeton last weekend. More prep sports starting
The Valley City High School girls tennis and boys golf teams start their seasons today.
The Hi-Liner boys start their season with a tournament at King’s Walk Country Club in Grand Forks. The girls will also be in Grand Forks against defending state champion Red River.
Results from both events will be in Wednesday’s Times-Record and season previews for both teams will be in the annual Spring Sports insert next week.

VCSU baseball schedule changed
The Valley City State University baseball team had its Monday double header with Jamestown postponed again.

VCPR gets geared up

Jerry Perkins of Perkins Chevrolet Buick GMC and Amy Pederson of Valley City Parks and Recreation stand with equipment donated to VCPR as part of the Chevy Youth Baseball Program. VCPR received equipment including 10 buckets, 10 dozen wiffle balls, 10 batting tees, a hitting net, 10 canvas equipment bags and 120 t-shirts. which will be used for all of the area’s youth baseball and softball teams, as well as a financial donation. In addition to the equipment, VCPR is also selling tickets to win a Chevrolet Equinox or Chevrolet Cruze through the program.

Weather causes postponements
Local baseball teams had games postponed due to poor weather over the weekend.
The Valley City High School baseball team had its Friday double header with Fargo North postponed and the Valley City State University team had its Saturday double header in Jamestown postponed.
Makeup dates were not announced for the high school game. The VCSU/Jamestown series will conclude today at 3 p.m. in Jamestown.

FARGO — North Dakota State University’s annual Green-Gold spring football game will be televised live statewide on the North Dakota NBC Sports Network for the first time in the program’s history at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, from the Fargodome according to NDSU director of broadcasting Jeremy Jorgenson.
Stations on the North Dakota NBC Sports Network include KVLY-TV (Channel 11, Fargo), KFYR-TV (Channel 5, Bismarck), KMOT-TV (Channel 10, Minot), KQCD-TV (Channel 7, Dickinson) and KUMV-TV (Channel 8, Williston).

The NAIA Unaffiliated Baseball Tournament started Wednesday, and the first game was a barnburner....
