Jennifer Feist, executive vice president of the Valley City-Barnes County Development Corp., and Mary Simonson, director of the Open Door Center, were both Presented with Valley City State University President's Distinguished Service Awards during a Recognition Luncheon Monday.
Dogs and dog lovers turned out for a pet parade and picnic at Chautauqua Park Monday. The event, sponsored by the Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals, featured about a dozen pooches dressed costumes. After strutting their stuff for the audience and judges, the dogs relaxed while their owners enjoyed a picnic supper.

When members of the Valley City High School Reunion Band gather each year to march in the Rally in the Valley parade, they're never sure they'll have enough people to perform, but year after year, they managed to pull it off, just as they did this year.

Barnes County had a difficult time coming up with enough people to staff all 15 voting precincts for Tuesday's Primary Elections, said county election officials. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.
Hundreds of rubber ducks are dumped off the City Park foot bridge Saturday afternoon to begin the Duckin' Down the Sheyenne rubber duck race. All proceeds benefit the Barnes County Relay for Life.
Winners of the race were Dorie Koppelman, first place; Lisa McCulloch, second place; Jodi Arneson, third place; Mary Tangen, fourth place; Kenny Nelson, fifth place; Kenneth Beach, sixth place; Mary Dahl, eighth place; Sue Kapaun, ninth place; and Pat Stoen, tenth place.
Cancer survivors, caregivers, friends and family walked and rallied together Friday evening to fight against cancer during the 15th annual Barnes County Relay for Life.
In a new location and on a new weekend, the Relay was held Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight at the Barnes County Courthouse. The evening started with a survivors reception at 5 p.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. A luminary ceremony was held at dusk.

A small concession of umbrellas sold out at five bucks a piece, and for a few minutes that five bucks was a good investment, when a small shower stayed overhead just long enough to dampen any dust and freshen the pit, which was, literally, already waist-deep in body-sucking, boot-stealing gumbo stew. And ready for magnificent beasts with elegant mechanics producing exquisite noise while boiling the muddy slop on tractor tires.
The Valley City State University Booster Board will host the 18-hole Viking Golf Scramble, one of the athletic departmentâ€™s major annual scholarship fundraisers, which takes place Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Valley City Town and Country Club and Bjornson Park.
Hole contests with prizes, and Hole-in-One contests sponsored by Miller Motors and Farmers Union, can be won throughout. All participants will receive entry prizes and dinner.
