Piano Man Theme of Cafe Concert

This year's Cafe Concert is all about the piano, featuring the song catalogs of Billy Joel and Elton John. Choir students from grades six-12 have been hard at work practicing a variety of piano songs that they will perform for the community later this month.

The 26th annual Valley City High School Cafe Concert will be held at the Hi-Liner Activity Center Sunday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Monday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. The event features five choirs from Valley City Junior Senior High School and the jazz band, which will perform during intermission.

Accident Injures One, Damages Restaurant

One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash that sent a van into a restaurant wall.
The driver of a South Central Adult Services taxi was injured after a collision between the taxi and another vehicle at the corner of Second Avenue and Main Street Wednesday afternoon. The collision, which occurred just after 5 p.m., threw the van owned by the taxi service into the corner of the Pizza Corner restaurant causing damage to the exterior wall and shattering a window.

Valley City Holds off No. 8 Lakota

Lady Hi-Liner basketball faced a second-half rally from Lakota/Edmore and junior forward Fallyn Freije Thursday night as Valley City looked to rebound from Tuesday night's 55-51 heartbreaker loss to West Fargo, but clutch shooting lifted the Hi-Liners to a 65-54 win.

VC Electric Rates Increase

Electric rates will likely go up four percent for customers of Valley City Public Utilities.
During a regular meeting of the Valley City City Commission on Tuesday, Valley City City Administrator David Schelkoph informed the commission that the rate increase would include two percent to make up for the increase in the city's cost for electricity and another two percent to make up for administrative and other costs.

VC Power: Lighten the Load

Power customers on Valley City Public Utilities are asked to conserve electricity for the next several days.
After the loss of a power substation caused a power outage in part of Valley City early Tuesday morning, the city was forced to transfer all of its power demand to one substation.

Casselton: Are We Prepared?

A railroad accident early last week in Casselton, resulting in an evacuation of the city, raised the question: if such an accident happened in or around Valley City, are we prepared?
The short answer: maybe.
Valley City and Casselton, along with several smaller communities in North Dakota face many of the same hazards: natural disasters; rail car accidents and I-94 traffic accidents involving tankers carrying hazardous materials are just a few of the scenarios that could provoke the need for a response from multiple agencies.

Concession Food Expo held for Hi-Liner Booster Club

January 8, 2014

A concession food expo was held at the Hi-Liner Activity Center (HAC) on Wednesday, Dec. 18 for all Hi-Liner Booster Club Board members, Valley City Public School administrative staff, PTO officers and students. The expo was offered as a way to introduce fast and easy healthy foods and recipes that can be made in a concession stand and will help increase profits.
