Valley City Babe Ruth beat Lisbon twice on the road Thursday night, coming back from a 9-5 fourth-inning deficit for a nine-inning 12-9 District win and surviving a three-run third frame in the 6-3 non-District finisher.
â€śWe didnâ€™t come out playing our best,â€ť Valley City head coach Lance Lukes said. â€śWe were just kind of going through the motions and not putting anything really into it. We left too many runners on base and didnâ€™t execute some of the little things that we need to be doing.â€ť

Drew Oberlanderâ€™s third-inning single had Valley City Babe Ruth up 3-2 in Sundayâ€™s Pizza Corner Classic championship, but Carringtonâ€™s two-run single in the fourth sparked an 8-4 trophy triumph.
â€śWe didnâ€™t play our best baseball and, when youâ€™re playing a good team like Carrington, if you donâ€™t play well, you wonâ€™t beat a good team,â€ť Valley City head coach Lance Lukes said. â€śWe made too many mistakes
out there: fielding errors, throwing errors, pitching errors, and Carrington, being the good team they are, took advantage of them.â€ť

Chase Carpenter allowed only three hits through seven innings and Jake Miller struck down runner after runner at the plate Thursday night, but Devils Lake scored three runs on two seventh-inning Legion Post 60 errors to turn a 1-0 lead into a 4-0 District win.
Devils Lake continued in the non-District follow-up for a 12-3 margin.

A new bar and grill is set to open in Valley City Friday. The Rusty Cage, attached to new restaurant MO Eats, will open at 5 p.m. today and a grand opening celebration is set for Saturday from 4-11 p.m.
The bar is owned by Amanda Clark, who owns the neighboring restaurant. The grand opening will feature specials, drink features, prizes and giveaways.

The Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals will host an evening of fun for dogs and their owners Monday. The group will hold a picnic and a pet parade at Chautauqua Park beginning at 5 p.m.
On June 26 Laura Langemo visits Oslo, Norway, to be part of a special ceremony recognizing the 200th anniversary of that country's constitution.
An important part of the ceremony will be seeing a gift to the country â€“ a bust of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln â€“ created by Valley City State University student Paul Fjelde, and given to Norway at the 100th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution.
The ceremony will be in Olso's Frogner Park, the permanent home of the bust of Lincoln, Langemo said.

In recognition of hosting the 51st annual UCC Northern Plains Conference this past weekend, Valley City's Congregational UCC will be home to the conference's model replica of the 19th century â€śLa Amistadâ€ť ship for the next year. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.
Valley City Police will be handing out tickets to children this summer, but not for violating the law. Kids caught wearing a helmet while bicycling, skateboarding, in-line skating, roller skating or riding a scooter could be stopped by a VCPD officer and given a ticket good for an ice cream cone at Dairy Queen.
