Alcohol Saturation Planned in NDHP’s Southeast Region

Troopers in the North Dakota Highway Patrol’s southeast region will be conducting an alcohol saturation in Stutsman, Barnes, Cass, Traill and Steele counties July 3-6. Troopers from across the southeast region will be working overtime to add extra patrols during the holiday weekend.

Approximately 25 percent of all traffic fatality victims in North Dakota this year have been killed in alcohol-related crashes. The goal of the saturation is deter and detect impaired drivers to prevent additional traffic crashes and deaths because of impaired drivers.

Local Athletes Win Gold, Silver at Special Olympics

July 3, 2014

Two local athletes who recently traveled to New Jersey in search of Special Olympics gold and silver were not disappointed with the outcome. Adam Maresh left New Jersey with three gold medals for weightlifting while Jennifer Bennett walked away with a silver medal, a fourth place ribbon and a sixth place ribbon in track and field events.

A little over a year ago, the Times-Record told you about a new coffee shop and community center that was slated to open in Valley City. What made The Vault Coffee Shop and Bakery unique was its self-service pay-by-honor-system business model. Eight months after its grand opening in October, The Vault has gained international attention for its unique business model, which seems to be working.

Babe Ruth Escapes Ellendale with District Sweep

Another pair of games, another same-day Babe Ruth season sweep.

This time it wasn’t easy, as Valley City returned from Ellendale, N.D., Wednesday night with a pair of comeback District wins, 7-6 and 6-5, for their seventh and eighth straight wins.

“We didn’t play up to our best today, but we fought through it and found a way to pick up two big wins,” Babe Ruth head coach Lance Lukes said. “And like I told the boys, a W is a W, and we escaped today with two of them.”

From left, Jake Ashline (138 pounds), Jordan Magnuson (220 pounds) and Zach Doty (182 pounds) competed with Team North Dakota in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling at June 25-28’s 2014 USA Wrestling Junior Duals in Oklahoma City, Okla. North Dakota took 24th in Greco-Roman action and 18th in Freestyle.

Sold! Heinze Honored for 47 Years of Auctioneering

After nearly a half-century as an auctioneer, Tony Heinze of Dazey, was recently honored with an induction into the World Wide College of Auctioneering Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed upon him after a lifetime of selling everything from antiques to livestock. "It's a top-notch, first-class honor," said Heinze.

Flea Market to Be Held Outside VC

July 2, 2014

Two Valley City women are starting a fee-free flea market, and the first is set for Saturday, July 12 outside of Bowen Welding north of Valley City. Jodi Rae Ingstad, who is starting the market with Sheree Bowen, said anyone who has something to sell is encouraged to set up a booth.
Vendors can begin setting up at 7 a.m. and customers can arrive then for shopping and fellowship.
