VCFD, VCSU Have Best Tasting Chili

March 3, 2015

The Valley City Fire Department had the best tasting chili according to the people who tried samples at this year's chili cook-off, and Valley City State University had the best chili according to the panel of judges.

Elizabeth (Lisa) Ann Warner

God reached down, took her hand, and brought her home. Elizabeth (Lisa) Ann Warner was born to Kenneth and Jeanette (Faust) Warner of Page, North Dakota on August 15, 1958 in Valley City, North Dakota. She died March 2, 2015. She and her sisters, Susan and Karen, had an idyllic childhood on the family farm.

Lenis LeRue Stromsodt

Lenis LeRue Stromsodt was born March 28, 1935 in Rural Romness Township to Clifford and Irene “Olson” Stromsodt. He passed peacefully March 1, 2015 after a long battle with cancer in hospice care at his home in Valley City surrounded by his loving family.

Battle of the Books at Washington Elementary

Washington Elementary School held awards for its third annual Battle of the Books Friday afternoon. The program coincides with February being reading month.

The goals of the program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension and promote academic excellence.

Gene William Koch

Gene William Koch passed away at his home in Gallatin Gateway, MT on February 26, 2015, surrounded by his loving and dedicated wife and daughters. He was 65 years old.
Gene W. Koch was born on January 1, 1950 in Valley City, ND; the son of Theodore “Ted” and Josephine “Jo” Koch. Gene began school in Rosemont, MN. At the age of six his family returned to Valley City, ND to farm the family’s homestead. He attended grade school at Grand Prairie and Ashtabula rural elementary schools. He graduated from Valley City Senior High School in 1967.

Delphine Maasjo Hunt

Delphine Maasjo Hunt passed away February 22, 2015 in Santa Maria, California. Delphine was born in North Dakota to Simon and Amy Luella Dahl Maasjo.
A teacher for 33 years, Delphine received education degrees from both North Dakota and California.
