Valley City State to Face #1 Carroll College in NAIA Football Playoffs

The Valley City State University football team will face Carroll College in the first round of the NAIA playoffs, the national office announced Sunday.

VCSU, ranked No. 14 in the country, will play at No. 1-ranked Carroll College on Saturday, Nov. 22. Game time is to be determined. The Vikings are making their eighth NAIA playoff appearance, and fourth playoff appearance under coach Dennis McCulloch.

Cavin Anderson: A Phenom Remembered

Between 1968 and 1972, Valley City State University basketball player Cavin Anderson scored 2305 points, clenching the record for career scoring leader, a record he holds to this day. He also held the fourth place record for career rebounds with 822. and the school record for 545 free throws.

Cavin died last week in Waterford City at the age of 64.

Duel in the Dirt Finals Next Weekend

Bull riders who competed in summer bull riding events have another chance to ride next weekend at the Duel in the Dirt Finals at the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center.

The finals are set for Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. both nights.

Cold Remaining at Least 1 Week

Valley City's 2 or so inches of snow over the past few days will likely stick around another week, as below average temperatures for this time of year remain, said Mark Ewens, a meteorologist technician with the Grand Forks office of the National Weather Service. Judy Stahl of Valley City brought in this photograph showing Valley City's snow-covered Little Dam on the Sheyenne River looked during the winter of 1960.

The Times-Record encourages residents of Barnes County and Valley City to submit photographs of personal and community events and activities that happened during their memories.

Submitted photographs will be returned after publication on request.
