Brady Anderson NSAA Baseball Player of the Week

Viking sophomore right fielder Brady Anderson is the North Star Athletic Association Baseball Player of the Week.

Anderson, a Jamestown native, batted .400 with a .575 slugging percentage and 10 runs driven in to help Valley City State to a 3-6 record last week in Tucson, Ariz. He posted 16 hits in nine games, including three doubles and two triples and five scored runs. His best game came in a 12-2 victory over Middlebury as he went 4-for-6 at the plate, scored a run and drove in four more.

Kiefert, District 24 Meet and Greet in VC

The District 24 Republicans held a breakfast get-together in Valley City Saturday with North Dakota Representative Dwight Kiefert on-hand to meet with constituents. Budget Burger restaurant was the venue for Kiefert and District 24 officials to meet and greet area residents.

Band Shell to Get New Foundation; Marks Phase One of Reconstruction

City Park's band shell that was damaged from two floods will soon get a new foundation, which marks the first phase of making the structure safe again for the community to use. Tyler Jacobson, director of Valley City Parks and Recreation, said Friday that they've awarded contracts for the construction of the new foundation and moving of the band shell sometime this spring.

Buffalo Sharpshooters Hit Their Marks

March 24, 2014

The Buffalo Sharpshooters and their family members were in Doland, S.D. for the Spink County BB Gun Invitational on Saturday March 1, in which 190 BB Gun shooters from three states competed.

The Sharpshooters, made up of Katie Zaun, Emma Tichy, Connor Drogen, Molly Anderson and Abigail VonBank, took first place as a team in the 10-to-11-Year-Old category.

Viking Spring Golf Opens in Iowa

March 24, 2014

Valley City State men’s golf took eighth place Friday with a 329 team total on Friday at the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships in Moravia, Iowa. Saturday’s Day 2 of the event was cancelled due to cold temperatures.

VCSU Baseball Falls to Doane and Bethesda

Viking baseball dropped to 8-15 on the season after losing an 8-4 contest to Doane College (Neb.) on Friday and a wild 18-15 game Saturday to Bethesda (Calif.) in Tucson, Ariz.

Viking Softball Finishes Spring Trip 9-9

March 24, 2014

Valley City State softball, after starting the season 4-9, got back to .500 with a 4-1 win over Antelope Valley and a 7-4 triumph over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday before losing 4-2 to Oklahoma Baptist and 3-0 to Dickinson State on Saturday.

VCPD Annual Report shows Steady Growth

Arrest numbers in Valley City are up, a trend attributed to having a full staff at the Valley City Police Department along with more emphasis put on reporting, according to the VCPD 2013 annual report released this week by VCPD Police Chief Fred Thompson.

Beer Pong at Captain's Pub

Valley City bar, the Captain's Pub, recently started a beer pong league and hopes to attract more players for another round this summer or early fall.
Pub Manager Jonathan Daluge said he started the league to try and bring college students back into the bar. Several players agree being a part of the league gives them something fun to do with their friends on a Thursday evening.
