CCHD Immunizes 1640 Plus

Without counting young people immunized with the flu vaccine, the City-County Health District had given out 1,840 doses as of its Nov. 13 board meeting. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

Warrant Wednesday: Nicholis Hinschberger

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Nicholis Hinschberger, 24, is wanted on a warrant for parole and probation violations.

Hinschberger is a white male with blond hair and blue eyes. He is six feet tall and weighs 165 pounds.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hinschberger should call the Barnes County Sheriff's Office at (701) 845-8530.

Historical Photo of Burned Nursing Home

The Valley City Times-Record plans to run a historical photograph each week submitted by our readers.

An anonymous Valley City resident brought in this photograph taken in October of 1965, when the condemned former Valley City Lutheran Home for the Aged burned. In 1965 the Lutheran Home was located on Washington Drive, but Valley City later changed the numbering of streets and avenues in the city.

Today the address for the home would be 345 12th Ave, N.E., where the Valley City Eagles Club is now located.

Nance's Hairstyling Now Valley Styles

A team of four stylists are working independently in Valley Styles, 1239 West Main Street, formerly Nance's Hairstyling in Valley City.

The four stylists — Terry Moritz, Pam Lunn, Katie Cruff and Julie Keller — made the place their own when former owner Nancy Powell retired in April.

VC Firefighters Retrieve Gun from Frozen Sheyenne River

Valley City firefighter Lance Coit lays on a raft while he attempts to retrieve a handgun frozen into the Sheyenne River near the Rainbow Bridge in Valley City while firefighter Scott Magnuson helps steer the craft from shore.

The handgun was spotted by a pedestrian Sunday. It's unclear how the handgun made it into the frozen river, though Valley City Police Department Chief Fred Thompson suspects it was thrown in recently since it was frozen into the top few inches of ice.

MV School Consolidation on Jan. 13 Ballot

Residents of the Maple Valley School District will be able to vote on a proposal to teach all district students in Tower City in a Jan. 13 special election. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.

10 Years Over the Rainbow: Unique Bridge Dedicated 10 Years Ago

Valley City is known for its bridges, and many of the bridges that cross the Sheyenne River have unique components that make them iconic. The Rainbow Bridge on East Main Street, which was rebuilt in 2004 for safety reasons, is one of the few rainbow arch bridges still in use in the U.S. today.

The new Rainbow Bridge, which replaced the Rainbow Arch Bridge, was dedicated almost 10 years ago.

The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation received its official 501c3 status from the IRS, a major achievement that allows contributions to be tax deductible. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Stuff a Truck Collection Up

The 2014 Stuff a Truck With Holiday Spirit collected 4,498 food items and $1,267.67 in cash donations by the time the annual drive was completed by 3 p.m. Thursday, said Angela Van Bruggen, Valley City High School student council advisor and social studies and math teacher.
