Dr. Anderson Elected to NDMA Post

Valley City Dr. Misty Anderson was elected Speaker of the House of the North Dakota Medical Association during its 127th annual meeting on Oct. 3 in Grand Forks. Anderson practices internal medicine at Sanford Health in Valley City. More in Friday's Times-Record.

UPDATE: BCN Locked-Down for False Alarm

Several schools, including one Barnes County school, were locked-down Thursday after a report of a shooting near Kensal, N.D, which turned out to be false.

Barnes County North School in Leal went into soft lockdown following the reported shooting. Principal Joan Klein said the school district kept everyone contained in the building until 3:30 p.m. 

Kensal is about 35 miles from the school in Leal and is about 22 miles from Wimbledon, a northwestern Barnes County town in the BCN school district. 

Courthouse Steps Fix Complete

Barnes County has finished repairs on 500-pound plus granite steps at the courthouse that were beginning to sag, possibly creating a safety concern. More in Friday's issue of the Times-Record.

O'Reilly to Have Grand Opening

O'Reilly Auto Parts will celebrate its grand opening in Valley City beginning next week.

The grand opening celebration, that runs from Wednesday, Oct. 15 to Tuesday, Oct. 28, will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at the store located at 1411 West Main Street.

Barnes County Relay For Life Seeking Volunteers

The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers in Barnes County – community leaders, cancer survivors, caregivers, anyone wanting to make a difference – to join the Barnes County Relay For Life. The organization is seeking volunteers who are interested in getting involved in the fight against cancer through fundraising in their signature fundraising event, the Relay For Life. Haugen, Bison Battle Back

Medina-Pingree/Buchanan junior middle blocker Jordan Thomas piled up 29 kills, six digs, an ace and a block Thursday night at Barnes County North, but Bison 5-foot, 8-inch sophomore setter Jayda Haugen’s 33 assists, 12 digs, two aces and a block helped North come back from a two-set hole for a 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12) win.

SQUIRREL POWER: Pyle, Central Cass Sweep Maple Valley

Maple Valley and Central Cass, rivals separated by only a 26-mile stretch of Interstate 94, dueled in Tower City on Thursday night but the second-place Squirrels kept their winning ways to give the Raiders their first District 2 loss, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15).

Central Cass led a tough first set, 19-18, and eked out a 25-20 win.

Maple Valley trailed only 14-11 and 20-17 in the second, but 25-19 went to the Squirrels.

Central Cass led 6-0 in the third and held on, 25-15.

BCN School in Soft Lockdown Following Possible Shooting Near Kensal

Wanted: Cortez Bogans

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Cortez R Bogans is wanted on a criminal judgment for failure to pay fines and fees for original charge of making false reports to law enforcement or other security officials, a class-A misdemeanor; simple assault, a class-B misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, a class-B misdemeanor.

Bogans, 23, is a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He is six feet tall and weighs 215 pounds.
