Local Ballot Measures Await BC Voters

Barnes County and Valley City residents will have several ballot measures to consider in the November 4 general election with three measures for Valley City and two for all of Barnes County. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

VC Meets Future VCSU President

Valley City State University faculty, students, staff and community leaders all either have or will have the chance to meet with the next VCSU president as the five semi-finalists tour the campus and meet with groups of people this week on campus. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

New Ford Building Now Open

The new Stoudt-Ross Ford building on Winter Show Road is up and running as of Monday. Nate Kvilvang, general manager, said a grand opening for the nearly 25,000-square-foot building is tentatively set for Nov. 10. Miller Motors plans to move into the old Ford building by the end of the year. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Warrant Wednesday: Joshua Maley

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Joshua Maley is wanted for failure to comply to a bench warrant on original charges of forgery or counterfeiting, a class-C felony and failure to make monthly payments.

Maley, 28, is white with brown hair and blue eyes. He is five feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds.

Anyone with information about Maley should call the Barnes County Sheriff's Office at (701) 845-8530. Callers can remain anonymous.

Edgeley-Kulm 5-foot, 6-inch junior libero Baylee Berg put the Rebels on her back with 35 assists and 29 digs in trading sets at Barnes County North on Tuesday night, but Jayda Haugen’s 32 assists, 11 digs, two aces and a block helped the Bison secure the 3-2 (25-20, 18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-6) District 5 win.

A FINAL DEFENSE: Shanley Junior Varsity's Pair of Late Stands Tops Hi-Liners

Turnover can be good for business, but not if your business is football.

Fargo Shanley ended five Hi-Liner drives with takeaways and lost a pair of fumbles at Hanna Field on Tuesday night, but it took a Deacon interception with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter to truly finish the Hi-Liners, 20-14.

“It hurts me too because you played your hearts out,” said Hi-Liner coach John Cunningham, who insisted that the superior team did not come out on top. “I want to play these guys again right now — if this doesn’t motivate you for Saturday, I don’t know what does.”

Marvin Stanton Alberts

Marvin Stanton Alberts, 89, passed away on September 25, 2014 in Smithville, Texas.
Marvin was born in Fargo, North Dakota on March 14, 1925 to George and Josephine (Rock) Alberts. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his wife, Janet (Carico)Alberts.
Marvin is survived by his two children: Son, Jeff Alberts; Daughter, Stacy Watne and his son-n-law, Doug Watne. Grandchildren: Chris Watne, Jessica Taylor and husband, Clint Taylor, Steven Alberts and Melissa Alberts. Great-Grandchildren: Alexis Mae Watne, Matthew Taylor, Brody Taylor and Kaylee Taylor.

VC Accident Injures One

An accident involving a car and a semi-truck on Interstate 94 in Valley City resulted in an injury Friday evening.

At about 7:20 p.m., the Valley City Fire Department, along with the Valley City Police Department and North Dakota Highway Patrol, responded to the accident in the westbound lane of I-94 at the west Valley City exit.

According to VCFD Chief Gary Retterath, the driver of the car was extricated from the vehicle after it collided with a semi, went into a ditch and caught on fire. The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived on the scene, said Retterath.

Koppelman: Schools Should Design Their Own Calendars

North Dakota voters will determine by voting on Measure 8 if school classes must begin after Labor Day in the November General Election. Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman said that while he understands the benefit of delaying classes until then, he believes each school district should be able to develop their own calendars, based on many factors within the district and community.
