2 Rear-End Collisions Occur on I-94

Two recent accidents on I-94 in Barnes County caused extensive vehicle damage and two injuries.

On Thursday, James Wanzek, 28, of Jamestown, and Linda Sorenson, 65, of Pillsbury, were both injured in a two-vehicle collision near Orkska.
According to North Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Herzig, at about 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Wanzek, who was driving a Toyota Tundra at about 75 mph, rear-ended Sorensen, who was driving a Dodge Durango at about 65 mph. According to Herzig, Wanzek was distracted by a water bottle that had fallen onto the floor.

Hit-and-Run Results in Arrest

A Valley City man faces several charges stemming from a hit-and-run accident Thursday night.

Rickey Lee Johnson, 54, of Valley City was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident after a vehicle matching his was spotted by a witness to the hit-and-run.

At about 10 p.m. Thursday, VCPD responded to a report of a hit-and-run at the intersection of Fifth Avenue Northwest and 12th Street Northwest, according to VCPD Chief Fred Thompson.

Twins' Kids Camps in Enderlin June 21

The Minnesota Twins offer free youth baseball and softball clinics at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at Hendrickson Field, 205 Grand Avenue in Enderlin, N.D., or — in the case of inclement weather — at Enderlin High School Gymnasium, 407 Bluff Street.

Clinics, focusing on hitting, fielding and throwing, are open to boys and girls from six to 16 years of age, and are divided into two 90-minute sessions, the first for 6- to 9-year-olds and the second for 10- to 16-year-olds. Parents are encouraged to participate.

Babe Ruth Sweeps Oakes

Drew Oberlander drove home five runs and scored two more in Monday’s 16-2 five-inning District win over Oakes, then Riley Miller’s two-walk, four-strikeout no-hitter highlighted a three-inning 12-0 non-District nightcap.

“It was great to see the boys aggressive early in the contest,” Valley City head coach Lance Lukes said. “Riley did what has become expected of Riley to do: he just pitched strikes and let our defense help him out.”

Times-Record Appears on History Channel

The front page of the Valley City Weekly Times-Record dated Aug. 6, 1914 was recently shown on the History Channel's mini-series "The World Wars."

Mike Entzminger emailed the Times-Record May 29, stating that he noticed the newspaper containing the headline, "Great Britian Declared War on German Empire Last Night." Entzminger said his birth announcement appears in the same newspaper.

The Times-Record is wondering why, of all the newspapers across the nation that likely had a very similar headline that day, the Times-Record was shown.

As elections for mayor and city commission approach, the city of Marion faces an issue that has segregated the community of about 133 residents – an issue
that could easily flow over into Tuesday's elections. The issue: junk vehicles.
Marion resident and business man Larry Alber, owner of Larry's Auto Sales and Service, owns, by some estimates, hundreds of junk vehicles that are stored on lots throughout the city – some on property the city claims Alber doesn't own legally.
