Hi-Liner volleyball became Valley City Optimist Tournament champions for the first time on Saturday with six sweeps in seven matches, after which senior middle hitter Claire Olson made the Optimist Tournament Team.

Nate Rodriguez and Lucas Jury ran for touchdowns and Jared Lentz threw another against No. 3 Wahpeton at home on Friday night, but this one was for the dogs as Husky junior quarterback Carson Zarak threw two scores and ran for three more in a 42-18 win.
Valley City opened with a 70-yard drive that Rodriguezâ€™s four-yard touchdown run completed, but Wahpeton junior running back Tyler Wohlers picked up three yards for a score, Zarak one yard for another with senior wide receiver Zach Bellmoreâ€™s two-point catch, and a 14-6 lead through the first stanza.
Mikaylah Ross and Casey Engelhard both had eighth-place finishes in their varsity races at the Valley City Bill Jansen Blue White Invite Cross Country Meet. The conditions turned windy, rainy, and sloppy for the varsity races, but still some decent times were posted on the day.

One-hundred eighty-five pound senior running back Brayden Kuntz scored two of his four touchdowns in the span of a minute in the fourth quarter at LaMoureâ€™s Townsend Field on Friday to give the No. 5 Homecoming Region 1 rival Loboes their first loss, 32-26.
A scammer has been calling area residents claiming to represent Valley City Public Utilities and demanding credit card payment to keep the resident's power on. This is a scam, according to Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson, that has been attempted in other parts of the country.
According to Lori Glaser of Valley City Public Utilities, several notices are sent out before turning off power to customers. Valley City Public Utilities never calls customers to demand payment.

A young man from Israel traveled all the way to Valley City to earn a GED diploma. Nadiv Swidler, 16, traveled here with his dad Jeff to take the test at the Valley City Adult Learning Center located in the Sheyenne Valley Career and Technical Center this week.
