Valley City Town and Country Club held their Menâ€™s Day on July 17 as temperatures were on the rise. The Longest Putt of the Day, sponsored by Bank Forward, went to Jamie Wirth. The Pizza Ranch Closest to the Pin contest on Hole 2 was won by Doug Bergan. TJ Hansen claimed the prize on Hole 3 for Closest Shot Outside of 50 Yards, sponsored by the Valley City Town and Country Club. Club veteran Kerry Anderson continued his fine play and won the Closest Second Shot contest on Hole 4, sponsored by Taco Johnâ€™s.
The Barnes County Municipal Airport Authority will be hosting the 2014 Wings and Wheels Airshow Saturday, Sept. 6.
The main aerobatic act will be third-generation pilot Matt Younkin piloting his Twin Beech 18, performing maneuvers never thought possible with such a large transport plane. He will also be performing the â€śMagic By Moonlightâ€ť night show at 9 p.m. that evening.

Valley City 16U softballâ€™s Northern Championship campaign concluded on Friday in Bismarck, N.D., with a five-inning 11-0 loss to Pool Aâ€™s No. 1 and to-be champion Brookings, S.D. Outlaws and a 9-3 defeat to Pool Bâ€™s No. 2 Fargo/Moorhead Blaze.
Brookings led 2-0 through an inning, 9-0 after two with the help of a three-RBI swing, and 10-0 through three. Valley City loaded the bases in the fifth but could not convert.
District 6 champion Valley City Babe Ruthâ€™s back-and-forth State Tournament concluded Sunday with a 12-6 loss to District 2 champion Carrington after Fridayâ€™s 7-5 marquee comeback win over host District 2â€™s Sheyenne-New Rockford and Saturdayâ€™s hitless five-inning 19-2 drubbing at the hands of District 3 kings Park River.
State wraps up with Mondayâ€™s 1 p.m. championship game or a 3:30 p.m. title match if necessary.

Legion Post 60â€™s clock struck midnight over the weekend as East No. 1 and State Tournament host Wahpeton took Fridayâ€™s four-inning 10-0 quarterfinal before West No. 4 Velva turned out the lights, 15-1, in Saturdayâ€™s five-inning consolation semifinal.

Two Valley City businesses were burglarized overnight Thursday. Between midnight and 7 a.m. Friday, someone entered the Deitrich and Sons bus barn and Truck and Auto Salvage, both on 14th Avenue Southwest.
Employees returning to work at Truck and Auto Salvage Friday discovered a floor safe had been broken into and an unknown amount of money missing.
A musician and former finalist on NBC's "The Voice" stopped in Valley City while on tour Wednesday. Nicholas David, a soul singer/songwriter, stopped to see Terry and Vicky Jones, owners of Vicky's Viking Room, who he called friends of his family.
He stopped by the restaurant to visit with the pair and their family and also performed a few songs for the crowd of about 20.
