Wendel, Schueneman 2nd in Courts Plus Doubles

Maia Wendel fell, 6-2, 6-0, to Christine Sayler in 18U Singles on Friday, Saturday and Sunday's tournament.

Evan Haglund fell, 6-3, 6-1, to Samuel Rath and to Adam Durrani, 6-2, 6-4, in 14U Singles.

Wendel (left) and Rachel Schueneman (right) fell, 7-5, 6-1, to Jenna Forknell and Maria Wanzek in 16U Doubles but, with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sophie Keelin and Anna Frie, took second place.

HERE COMES THE HERD: Barnes County North Pushes Past Kidder County

Finding a way to win yields the same result as a sweep, especially on Senior Night.

Abby Undem’s 12 kills, four digs and four blocks and Shelby Brown’s six kills and four blocks helped upstart Barnes County North sink the Pirates of Kidder County, 3-1 (22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-20), for their third win in their last five regular matches after only two in their first 11.

Wellness Center Costs, Fees Unveiled at Meeting

The proposed Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center should be able to operate on its own revenue and membership fees would be similar to monthly membership fees at the current Valley City Recreation Center Fitness Center, according to planners at a public meeting Monday. Miklas Gets 8.5 Years for Church Arson

Andrew Miklas was sentenced Monday in Barnes County District Court to 8 1/2 years in prison for committing the arson that destroyed Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City in October, 2013. Miklas was also sentenced to five years probation and ordered to pay over $7,000 in fines plus restitution.

Miklas' accomplice, Nicole Lindermann, 19, of Kathryn, received a suspended one-year sentence and five years supervised probation because she cooperated with law enforcement.

Fashion Show Benefits Dance Team

A mother and daughter teamed up to host a fashion show and help the Valley City Hi Lites Dance Team. The Thursday evening show at Sabir's featured girls from the team, coached by Megan Gilbertson, and other women from the community modeling clothing and accessories from the Catwalk Boutique inside Central Hair Studio, owned by Megan's mom Ona Barnett. Stutsman Proposes Crew Camp Site

The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. has made available 30 to 40 acres of land it owns in Spiritwood Township it believes would be perfect to house people who will construct a $3 billion CHS nitrogen fertilizer plant near the Stutsman/Barnes County border. Hi-Liners, Barnes County North Run at Cross Country State

There was plenty of Barnes County representation at Saturday's State Cross Country Meets at Souris Valley Golf Course in Minot.

Valley City took 17th of 20 Class A Girls 4k teams with 532 points and 20th of 20 in the Class A Boys 5k with 793 points.

Barnes County North's girls came 20th of 39 Class B 4k teams with 681 points, the Bison boys 35th of 40 Class B 5k teams with 951 points.

A LONG WINTER: Squirrels Scratch Hi-Liners for Final East State Seed

Leave it to a Hi-Liner-Squirrels game to be as nutty as possible.

Noah Knutson, Central Cass’s 5-foot, 10-inch senior running back in his first-ever football appearance, returned a pair of kickoffs for scores, caught a touchdown pass and powered for another on the ground at Hanna Field on Friday to help fifth-place Central Cass escape a 16-6 hole and take the fourth and final AA East seed from third-place Valley City, 40-32.
