Saturdayâ€™s drizzly Hillsboro cross country meet turned out to be a grand event as most of the Eastern Dakota Conference powers turned up to race, as did schools from Grand Forks, Fargo, West Fargo, Wahpeton and smaller schools from eastern North Dakota and Minnesota.
Valley Cityâ€™s junior high girls team took third in the 7-9 Division behind Fargo Shanley and Fargo Davies as Sharon Michael, Presley Curtis and Sophie Boe, led the Hi-Liner pack in their cross country debuts.
Eliza Schueneman, Mikayla Wolla, and Rebecca Thompson rounded out the bunch.
Valley City Public Schools announces that Suzanne Fisher, a USA Gymnastics-certified coach with over 30 years of combined experience in dance, competitive cheer and gymnastics, is the new head Hi-Liner gymnastics coach.
Fisher enters her third year in the Hi-Liner Program, having spent her first two as an assistant coach with her husband, David Fisher. Suzanne Fisher is also the Valley City Twisters Gymnastics Club head coach of three years.
Andrew Sadek died as a result of a gunshot wound to his head, according to autopsy results released to the North Dakota State College Science Police Department Saturday. According to Mark A. Koponen, M.D. medical examiner, the manner of death has been ruled as undetermined. A toxicology drug screen was negative.

Marie Margaret Baker, 95, of Mesa, AZ. passed away peacefully in her sleep, August 7, 2014 in Mesa, AZ.
Visitation and rosary will be held at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City, ND on August 29th at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn, ND at 11:00. Music for Marie will preceed the mass.
Douglas R. Oglesby, 91, passed peacefully in his sleep, August 22, 2014 at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, ND. His funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, ND. Visitation will be held the hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the ND Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
Rosalind Jacobsen, 93, Valley City ND passed away peacefully on August 21, 2014 at her granddaughterâ€™s farm home cared for by all of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Rosalind Irene Webber was born March 10, 1921 near Karnak, ND to F.J. and Ellen (Dolan) Webber. She grew up in the Hannaford area finishing 8th grade at Kent School in Griggs County school district.

Henry â€śHankâ€ť Holden, age 95 of Valley City, ND and formerly of Tower City, ND died Aug. 20, 2014 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be conducted at 3 PM Monday August 25, 2014 at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City. Inurnment will be in the Buffalo Cemetery.
