Tracy the Dog Saved with the Help of a Meatball

Tracy, the German shepherd lost in an accident on I-94 west of Valley City earlier this month, was recovered Saturday – with the help of a meatball.
Tracy was lost after her owner, Phillip Maxwell of Minot, was injured in a serious accident on Dec. 7. The accident occurred on I-94 about eight miles west of Valley City near Sanborn. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.

VC Native Receives Silent Warrior's Award

December 23, 2014

Valley City native Rex Sorby was recently awarded a Silent Warrior's Award from the United State Air Force Security Service on behalf of the government of South Korea for his Korean War service from 1951 to 1955.

The award was given during a reunion in November. Silent warriors, according to its website, are members of the United States Air Force Security Service who served behind the scenes.

Cops, Firefighters Take Area Kids Shopping

December 22, 2014

Dozens of area kids participated in Santa Cops And Kids Thursday. During the event, which was sponsored by the Valley City Police Department, area children who experienced a hard time over the past year had a pizza party at Pizza Corner and were taken to Shopko in emergency vehicles with lights and sirens to shop for their families before going back to the Hi-Liner Activity Center to wrap gifts and enjoy a visit from Santa.

Sen. Hoeven Tours VC National Guard Facilites

U.S. Sen. John Hoeven spent an hour in Valley City Friday morning, touring the current North Dakota National Guard maintenance shop, the site for a planned new shop east of Valley City's John Deere facility, and finally perused plans for the new shop scheduled for completion in 2016. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Local Senior Named Miss Teen ND International

Valley City Senior Jordyn Sayler was recently named Miss Teen North Dakota International 2015. She will move on to compete for Miss Teen International in Jacksonville, Fla. in August.

Sayler, daughter of Nathan and Marsha Sayler, received the title Dec. 6 at the North Dakota International Pageant at the Fargo South Theater, where she competed against other teens from the state. Also at the competition Miss Grand Forks County Megan Yahna was named Miss North Dakota International and Mrs. Fargo Erin Bertel was named Mrs. North Dakota International.

Dietrichs Broken Into Over Night

Valley City Police are looking for an unidentified individual who broke into the Dietrich and Sons building through a window early this morning when the business was closed and unoccupied.

Police Chief Fred Thompson said once inside, the suspect took a small safe belonging to the business and left in an unknown direction.

The suspect, described as "heavy set," and some of the suspect's movements were caught on surveillance video. Police were unable to locate the suspect after checking the area.

Drake Questions Buy-Out Property Rules

Bob Drake believes Valley City lost out when flood buy-out homes were demolished. Had the homes been sold and moved onto other city lots, the city would have benefited from the purchases as well as property taxes once the homes were at new locations.

Valley Youth Choir Performs at Courthouse

December 19, 2014

The VCSU Community School of the Arts (CSA) Valley Youth Choir, directed by Courtney Pederson, from the Barnes County Courthouse Carol Sing on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Connie Reiten, director of the Community School of the Arts, said on Wednesday that one other CSA ensemble performed, the Valley Voices Women's Choir directed by Dr. Christopher Redfearn, as did the Valley City Troubadours.
