Cafe Concert Rescheduled

The Valley City Junior Senior High School cafe concert's Sunday performances have been postponed to Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Hi-Liner Activity Center. The two performances will be combined into one due to facility conflicts. The seventh- and eighth-grade choirs will perform at the Wednesday show.
Monday's performance will remain the same, featuring the sixth-grade students from Washington Elementary School beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday's performance tickets will not be honored for Monday's performance unless ticket holders call the school and exchange tickets on Monday.

Churches Alerted about Scam Artist

The Valley City Police Department is cautioning area churches about a convicted child sex offender from California who is allegedly operating a scam.
A release from the VCPD said Kenneth Monk, a 5-foot-9-inch, 140-pound white male with brown hair and brown eyes, has been walking into churches, telling the congregations that his wife has died in a car accident and he needs money to get to Forest, Miss., to go to the funeral and be with his children. It's estimated that Monk is about 35 years old.

Barnes County commissioners Tuesday approved rebuilding work on two county roads done over the summer, said Kerry Johnson, Barnes County Highway superintendent.

Valley City State’s basketball teams split their North Star Athletic Association conference openers Saturday at Mayville State, the men winning 68-59 while the women lost 76-58 to the No. 16-ranked Comet women.

Joe Dominiak New VCSU Assistant Baseball Coach

Joe Dominiak is Valley City State’s new assistant baseball coach, VCSU announced Friday.

“Joe brings a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to our coaching staff,” said head coach Casey Olney. “He has coached at every level from high school to Division I. We are excited to have him take over the coaching responsibilities with our pitchers and catchers.”

5th- and 7th-Graders Win Valley City Travel Basketball Tourneys

Valley City’s 5th- and 7th-grade girls travel basketball teams both took first place in Saturday’s Valley City Parks & Recreation tournaments.

The 5th-graders defeated Barnesville and Fargo, won a nailbiter against Wahpeton and finished by beating Jamestown.

The 7th-graders opened with wins over Barnesville and Napoleon, and finished with a defeat of Edgeley.
