Johnson, Miller, Baasch Chosen for Under Armour Recruiting Classic

Jesse Johnson, Jake Miller and Ben Baasch got the call.

All three Valley City Legion Post 60 aces earned an invite to Dec. 27 - Dec. 30’s Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic at Mesa, Ariz.’s Gene Autry Sports Complex, the former spring training home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Johnson, Miller and Baasch learned of their Classic qualifications just days after competing in Sunday’s Dickinson, N.D., Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryouts, having been nominated by Post 60 head coach Kyle Roelfsema.

Wellness Center, Flood Protection Separated for Election

The Valley City City Commission approved giving city residents a vote for or against a health, wellness and physical education center while separating the issue from permanent flood protection.

During the November general election, Valley City residents will be asked to approve or disapprove two separate measures. One, to extend no less than 83 percent of an existing 1/2 percent sales tax increase, originally earmarked to pay for the Hi-Line Activity Center, to pay the city's share of permanent flood protection.

Throwback Thursday

The Valley City Times-Record plans to run a historical photograph each week on Thursdays submitted by our readers.

Wes Anderson, curator of the Barnes County Historical Society Museum agreed to start off the series and give our readers an idea what we are hoping will be submitted with this photo from the museum archives.

Photos can be of events or places in Barnes County from 10, 20, 30 years ago, or even older. We will publish at least one submitted photograph every week in the Valley City Times-Record.

BC Sheriff Looking for Cornell

Each Wednesday, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have felony warrants out for their arrest. Thanks to the public's assistance Warrant Wednesday subject, Jeremy Smith was arrested and incarcerated. Thanks for the tips and the calls!

This week, the Barnes County Sheriff's Office is looking for Terry Lee Cornell, II, who is wanted for an outstanding warrant and revocation of probation.

Cornell, 41, is a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds.

Starion Financial founder Frank Larson received the Distinguished Community Banker Award at the 47th annual convention for the Independent Community Bankers of North Dakota (ICBND). The award was presented on August 19 in Bismarck. More in Thursday's Times-Record.

Color My Stride 5k Coming to Bismarck

University of Mary Athletic Training Student Association will host its first color run, the Color My Stride 5k, in support of the UMATSA organization and its 2014 charity partner Benton’s Hope on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Packet pick-up is 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. with an 8 a.m. start. Pre-registration is encouraged. T-shirt sizes are limited.

Memorial Services for Cynthia “Cis” Burchill age 53 of Pillsbury, ND will be conducted at 11 AM, Monday, August 25, 2014, at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City, ND with Rev. Dan Faust officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Cis passed away Aug. 19, 2014 at Sanford health in Fargo, ND.

Sibley Bull-A-Rama Scheduled for Labor Day Weekend

The Dazey Sodbusters Club will celebrate its 69th anniversary this year with the 11th Sodbuster Stampede Bullorama in Sibley on Sunday. Along with a full day of bull riding, dancing and pedal tractor pulling, the Sodbuster club will honor Keith Nudell as the 2014 Outstanding Sodbuster of the Year. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Updated Technology at VCPS

Valley City Public School buildings will now be accessible by a key fob only. Faculty and staff will receive fobs to open the doors, and guests can be admitted by pushing a button on the door. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.
