Ruth L. Langer

September 16, 2014

Ruth L Langer, age 85, of Valley City, ND and formerly of Alice, ND died Tuesday Sept. 16, 2014 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Friday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City, ND with Msgr. Dennis Skonseng celebrant. Visitation will be from 5PM until 7 PM Thursday at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City with a Prayer Service recited at 7 PM. Interment will take place in the Alice Community Cemetery at 1:30 PM Friday.

Lucas Murdie

Lucas Murdie, age 35, of Springfield, MO, died September 1, 2014 in Rawlins, WY. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 20th at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church in Valley City. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City, ND.

It's Flu Vaccine Time

Signs announcing flu shots are now available have been appearing at Valley City pharmacies over the past few weeks, with the annual problem expected to appear by October. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.

Dino Hunter to Speak About Display at Museum

September 16, 2014

Alan Komrosky, the paleontologist who dug up and put together the Triceratops skeleton that's on display at the Barnes County Museum, will speak about the creature Thursday at 7 p.m.

The lecture, titled, "Resurrecting Bob: The journey from discovery to public unveiling," is part of the Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series taking place at the museum.

Local Wheat Harvest Brighter Than Statewide

Barnes County small grains farmers are resting easy this week with most of the area's wheat and barley crops harvested and in good condition, unlike small grain producers in other parts of the state where the wet summer led to disease and other problems. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.

SNAPPED: Wahpeton Sticks Hi-Liner Junior Varsity with 1st Loss in 3 Years

When all else fails, throw it to Levi Nix.

Nix, the 6-foot, 4-inch sophomore quarterback, climbed the ladder, split two defenders at the 15-yard line and danced into the end zone in Wahpeton on Monday night, but Husky 5-foot, 9-inch sophomore quarterback Tyler Breuer and all his rowdy friends handed the junior varsity Hi-Liners their first loss in three years, 42-6.

“I don’t think they were that much better than us,” Hi-Liner coach Jim Breckheimer said. “But the wheels fell off.”

“They took us out of our gameplan,” Valley City coach Ty Allen said.

Mildred “Millie” Trapp

Mildred “Millie” Trapp age 101 of Pine City, MN, formerly of Valley City, ND, passed away on Sept. 14, 2014.
Mildred Geneva Hanson was born to Lewis Melvin and Mabel (Petersen) Hanson on Aug. 31, 1913 in Nome, ND. She married Herbert Trapp on Ap. 16, 1932. They resided in Lucca, ND until 1977 when they moved to Valley City, ND. After the death of her husband in 1995, Millie continued to live in Valley City until 2004 when she moved to Pine City, MN to live with her daughter.

Conni Bruse

Conni Layne Bruse was born on November 14, 1963, in Valley City, ND. She was the youngest of six children born to Marlyn and Estelle (Haarsager) Bruse of Litchville, ND. She grew up on the family farm south of Litchville, where she developed a love of writing and drawing, and a very special bond with nature and animals. Whether it was riding her horse, Cheyenne, or playing with a new batch of baby kittens, all animals held a special place in Conni’s heart. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Litchville and graduated from Litchville High School in 1982.

Faith Vebsky

Faith Vebsky, 66, Harvey, died Sept. 12, 2014, at St. Aloisius Hospital, Harvey. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 17, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. with prayers services at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
