March 18th
There will be NO SCHOOL in Valley City today, Monday, March 18th. We will make up this day on Friday, May 29th.
ND ROAD REPORT: A No Travel Advisory remains in effect for Williston, Minot, Jamestown, Valley City, Fargo, Wahpeton and surrounding areas due to high winds causing blowing snow, areas of near zero visibility, compacted snow and continuous ice on roadways. Motorists should not travel due to hazardous conditions which may make it unsafe to travel.
March 12th
The North Dakota Department of Transportation has extended a Travel Alert to include Fargo, Casselton, Wahpeton and surrounding areas due to blowing snow sticking to the roadways causing areas of scattered slush, compacted snow, and continuous ice. Conditions are such that motorists can still travel in these areas, but should be advised that wet roads may turn to ice as temperatures drop overnight and challenging winter driving conditions may exist. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds and drive according to the conditions.
The Monsanto Fund's America's Farms Grow Communities program has chosen the winner of this year's winner, whose choices for donations will each receive $2,500.

The 76th North Dakota Winter Show wrapped up Sunday with higher overall numbers than in previous years.
Popular attractions included shows by the Black Hills Raptor Center and a magician who performed at the free stage. Food and vendors surrounded the main arena which was the venue for horse and tractor pulls as well as concerts and the rodeo.
A PRCA rodeo wrapped up a week of events on Sunday.

Students at Jefferson Elementary School got to eat breakfast with their parents last week during the school's highlight of the National School Breakfast Program.
Valley City Public Schools food services director Sue Milender said, "Kids who eat breakfast have general increase in math grades, reading scores, increased attention levels as well as improved behaviors."

March 8th
The 2013 North Dakota State Open Horse Pull took place Thursday at the North Dakota Winter Show.
Ten teams of draft horses competed in two categories – the Percentage Pull and the Heavyweight Pull.
Teams from North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin competed.

The Comet PANSTARRS will be making an appearance in the skies over North Dakota next week and a viewing party will be held at the Rosebud Visitors Center parking lot for anyone who wants to witness it.
"Comets are unpredictable," said Dr. Joe Stickler of Valley City State University, so he doesn't know what kind of show the comet will give its audience. "But it will be fun to watch," he added.

Sid and Thelma Hinrichs took part of their store in Tower City on the road for the antique show at the North Dakota Winter Show. The couple, who owns Sid's Antiques, has been in the antique business for 30 years.

March 7th
The old time tractor pull held at the North Dakota Winter Show Tuesday gives tractor hobbyists a chance to show off their restorations. Donald Pollert, a retired farmer, and Rob Bell, a service manager at a John Deere dealer, were two of many who entered this year's pull.
"It's a good group of people who take part in it," Pollert said. "You meet a lot of different people from different areas of the state, especially at the Winter Show. They come from all over."
The First Church of the Nazarene in Valley City will hold a Passover service Sunday featuring a missionary from Jews for Jesus who will explain the service and tie it into Christianity.
Samuel Rood, a missionary from Jews for Jesus will tell the Passover story and explain the significance and symbolism of the Passover meal and traditions. According to Jews for Jesus, Christ's Last Supper was a Passover supper.
Rood will tie the Old Testament to the New Testament, according to Pr. Fred Morrison of the First Church of the Nazarene.
