Theft at Clausen Springs

November 7, 2013

The main campground at Clausen Springs was the site of a burglary earlier this week.
On Sunday, caretaker Bev Anderson reported the theft of at least $2,000 in hand and power tools from a garage in the campground.

VCPS Hires Nutrition Services Director

School, Teachers Still at Impasse

The Valley City Public Schools and the Valley City Education Association are still at impasse in contract negotiations.
During a hearing Wednesday at which the entities met to discuss recommendations from a state fact-finding commission regarding teacher's pay increases, payment of accumulated sick leave days upon teachers' retirement and the establishment of a health insurance committee to review the district's self-funded health insurance program, the school board and the teacher's association agreed on all of the recommendations as written in the fact-finder's report.

Marketplace Active in Valley City

Library Celebrates Chocolate

Chocolate, Chocolate. There will be so much of the sweet treat at the Valley City-Barnes County Public Library's chocolate bake sale on Saturday, they had to say it twice.
The event, which will take place Saturday from 10 a.m.. to 2 p.m., will benefit the children's library. The event will also include a book sale.

2014 Relay Planned for Courthouse Lawn

Students Raising Money for Books

During the book fair at Jefferson Elementary and Washington Elementary schools this week, the students are having a little contest to help refresh the library with new books from the Scholastic Book Fair.

No. 6 Litchville/Marion-Montpelier (0-1) did their best to win a trip to Regionals with an upset of No. 5 Edgeley-Kulm (1-1) in Game 6 of the District 2 Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 5 and built leads in the first two sets, but could not sustain them as E-K rallied each time and sent LMM home with a very narrow 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-23) sweep that featured 16 total tie scores.

No. 4 Barnes County North (0-1) sought a trip to Regionals with an upset of No. 3 Pingree-Buchanan (1-1) in Game 5 of the District 5 LaMoure Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday night, but fell 3-0 (17-25, 15-25, 18-25) and were eliminated to end their 2013 campaign.

LaMoure District 5 Volleyball Champs

No. 1 LaMoure volleyball (1-0), having finished second to three-time defending champion No. 2 Ellendale (1-0) in each of the past three District 5 Tournaments, took the title at last with a powerful 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18) sweep in their home gym on Tuesday night, the Lady Loboes' first title in eight years since repeating four times as champions from 2002-2005.
