Lindgren Valley City’s 1st Rumble on the Red Champ

Hi-Liner wrestling, ranked 10th among North Dakota Class B varsity teams, took their talents to Fargo for the Rumble on the Red Wrestling Championships, from which Valley City took 21st of 69 varsity teams, ninth of 64 junior varsity teams and a 182-pound championship from senior Dustin Lindgren.

BCBS Adds Jobs This Year

Blue Cross Blue Shield's call center in Valley City recently added eight jobs to its office, bringing a total of 19 employees. An Economic Policy Institute study showed that each of the eight new jobs adds approximately $115,000 in economic impact, which is close to $1 million total.
Linda Skramstad, the call center's team leader, said eight new employees started Sept. 16. She said the jobs were added because it was anticipated they'd need more customer service representatives based on the new healthcare reform.

Ag Cab Lab Installed

BC Adds Regulatory Funding

Barnes County has agreed to add $500 to its 2013 funding of the regional truck regulatory office, and hold off on increasing its 2014 truck regulatory contribution by $5,000, to make certain the other three counties paying for the program also add $5,000 each. Barnes County Commissioners have decided to make no immediate changes in the number of poling places on election day after sponsoring a informational meeting for the public Dec. 5. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.

Pioneer Park Warming House Open to Public

December 23, 2013

Pioneer Park Warming House, located at 800 NW 4th Street, opened for the season on Saturday, Valley City Park District announced Friday.

Warming House hours are Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., and Saturday & Sunday from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Christmas Eve hours are 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Dec. 26 - Jan. 3 hours are 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Regular season hours begin Jan. 4.

The Warming House, according to policy, closes if the temperature drops to 10 degrees below zero or fewer, or if the wind chill is 19 below or less.

Pizza Corner Hero Gets Award

A Pizza Corner employee who saved a woman's life in October was recently given the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce's monthly customer service award.
David McDonald said he's felt support and welcoming from the community ever since an article appeared in the Times-Record about McDonald's heroic act when he saved an elderly woman from choking at the restaurant the evening of Oct. 23.
