Public Works Closing Early Tomorrow

Valley City Public Works offices will be closed Friday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. for remodeling but will be available for phone calls.

Regional 911 Link On Hold

Barnes County's 911 dispatch link with Stutsman and Richland counties will likely not happen for a couple of weeks as North Dakota computer system specialists finish needed connections and install equipment, said Barnes County Information Systems Manager Jason Thiel.
Wednesday Barnes County Emergency Emergency Manager Kim Franklin said new equipment and the county courthouse building are both waiting to complete a connection with Richland and Stutsman counties. “We will just have to wait to hook in.” Franklin said new routes and IP lines will both be installed.

24 Hour Theater Set for Weekend

The community is invited to join Valley City State University students and faculty for a 24-hour theater extravaganza this weekend. Director Jenni Lou Russi said they're looking for writers and directors to show up at VCSU's Vangstad Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday evening. After a 24-hour challenge of writing and rehearsing, the free show will be held in Vangstad at 7 p.m. Saturday, also open to all.

Sex Offender Arrested

A convicted sex offender, who eluded officials for about three weeks after failing to register, was arrested in Valley City Tuesday and is now in the Barnes County Correctional Facility.
Michael Allen Nelson was arrested in a house in southwest Valley City without incident, according to Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin.
Nelson is considered a lifetime high-risk offender who was convicted in 2009 for corruption/solicitation of a minor after having sex with a 14-year-old girl when he was 20.

Barnes County Plans To Ask For Addresses

Barnes County Commissioners Monday rejected a proposed motion to ask incorporated cities to require house number and street numbers, but said they still want things to be easier for first responders and fire departments to respond to emergency calls.
Commissioners rejected the proposed request 3-2, but only in order to seek input from fire departments and first responders on what type of identification they prefer.

Farmer's Market to Serve Kabobs

Viking Football Gold Card Blitz Coming Sept. 12

Valley City State Football began its annual sale of Gold Cards on Monday.

Gold Cards cost just $15 and qualify the holder for discounts to numerous businesses and restaurants in the Valley City area. Cards can be purchased from any VCSU football player.

On the evening of Sept. 12, the football team will conduct its annual Gold Card Blitz - wearing their jerseys and going door-to-door in the community selling the cards.

All funds raised from the sale of Gold Cards support the VCSU football program.

Viking XC Wins Valley City Invite; Hi-Liners in Top 10

Valley City State's harriers started the season on top Friday at Valley City Country Club.

The Viking men's cross country team took first place at its home meet, opening the season with a team victory and two individuals finishing in the Top 5.

Hi-Liners Hold Serve in Bismarck

Hi-Liner volleyball completed a 4-2 campaign over Labor Day Weekend at the East / West Tournament in Bismarck, losing only to Minot and Jamestown.

Senior setter Jessica Denholm served 53 assists on the weekend. Junior setter / defensive specialist Samantha Coit added six more.

Junior middle hitter Clarisa Olson racked up 33 kills, Senior outside / right hitter Madison Taylor spiked 28 and Dierra Diegel 26.

Senior middle hitter Danica Diegel provided eight blocks, Olson four and Taylor 3.

Olson swooped in for 62 digs, Dierra Diegel 49 and Danica Diegel 47.
