Hi-Liners Set Personal Bests, 3 Teams Make Top 5's

Hi-Liner Cross Country ran in the Casselton Invite at Casselton Golf Course on Thursday, in which nine Valley City harriers took Top 15 finishes, three Hi-Liner teams finished in the Top 5, and 10 Hi-Liner harriers set personal best times.

Homecoming Hi-Liners Stuff Falcons

September 30, 2013

Hi-Liner football (0-1 East Region, 1-3 overall) looked to celebrate Homecoming with a win over rival Maple Valley/Enderlin (0-2, 2-2) at Hanna Field on Friday night.

Valley City did exactly that, scoring on all but one possession to light up the Falcons for seven rushing touchdowns and another through the air en route to a 62-28 Homecoming win.

Reimers and Miller Will Face Mandan at State Tennis Tourney

No. 8 Hi-Liner tennis faced No. 1 Red River in Regionals action in Fargo on Thursday, finishing 0-2 on the day to end their team season.

GUEST VIEW: Dinosaur Hunter Discusses Commercial Vs. Academic Finds

On Sept. 25, the Fargo Forum published an article about Dueling Dinosaurs, a pair of dinosaurs that appear to be fossilized in a fighting position, that referred to the upcoming auction of the find as "mostly hype." In the article, Paleontologist Jack Horner claimed the find had no scientific value because it was collected by people who make money.
I respect Jack Horner and the academics that do research in the field of paleontology, but I could not disagree more with the comment that all scientific value is lost simply because money is involved.

Barnes County Dispatch Up and Running

Barnes County Dispatch based in the Barnes County Courthouse began handling its own calls Thursday, as communications were passed from state radio to Barnes County.
Kimberly Franklin, director of Barnes County Emergency Management, said Friday, “We now get our own calls – although a few weeks late.”

NDSA Hosting Breeds Cattle Tour

September 30, 2013

The North Dakota Stockmen's Association will hold its 27th annual All Breeds Cattle Tour starting and finishing in Valley City, that will showcase ranches in southeastern North Dakota on Oct. 11.
The tour will feature a line-up of 12 area cattle producers representing eight breeds of cattle, including some in Barnes and neighboring counties.

Bridges Celebrates Grand Opening

Bridges Bar and Grill celebrated its grand opening all last week. Celebrations included kids face painting, wine tasting, Valley City State University athlete autographs, music, an official ribbon cutting ceremony and more.
After opening in May, the bar and grill restaurant attached to the AmericInn has added some new menu items, and now serves an array of hand-pattied burgers, chicken sandwiches, wraps, wings, appetizers and more. The bar also has eight tap beers and a wide selection of beers and wines.
