Chinese Buffet Opening in Valley City

The owner of the Great Dragon restaurant in Jamestown has purchased the old Pizza Hut building in Valley City, and will turn it into a Chinese buffet.
Manager of the Jamestown restaurant Allen Chen said his father, owner Yihe Chen, is "taking some time to remodel and look for help, then he should be ready to go." He plans to serve a variety of Chinese food in a buffet style.

Big Response to Possible TRO Violation

On Saturday, Valley City Police, with the assistance of the Jamestown/Valley City/Stutsman County/Barnes County Special Operations Team conducted a search of a residence at 649 8th St. Northeast, Valley City, closing a portion of Chautauqua Boulevard and a portion of 6th Avenue. Authorities were searching for Lynn Daniel Kouba, who was believed to be in violation of the terms of a temporary restraining order.
After a search of the premises, it was found that Kouba was not at the residence.

Burglaries: More Storage Units Hit

July 15, 2013

More burglaries were discovered in Valley City storage units overnight Thursday in a facility in the industrial park near Wagon Wheel Inn. Eight more burglaries were discovered bringing the total to 15 in Valley City.
While a complete list of stolen items is not available to date, previously a bucket of belt buckles, an old meat cutter and, most recently, a Budweiser go-cart.

VC Offers 55 Alive Classes

For the past seven years, retired minister Peter Farrelly of Valley City has been offering defensive driving classes for senior citizens and others needing to freshen their driving skills.
Farrelly said the classes were “designed for 55 and older, but there is no minimum. What is taught can be used by high school students on information learned in (drivers education) classes.”

Avoid Complications in the Heat

The heat and humidity of July has finally arrived, but with the sunshine and hot weather comes risks. In order to prevent complications from the heat, Sarah Hansen, registered nurse with the City-County Health District, recommends a few steps people can take.
She said when outside, stay hydrated by drinking nonalcoholic and decaffeinated fluids and take things slowly.
"Don't do too much strenuous activity," she said. "Dress for summer; wear lightweight clothing and light-colored clothing to reflect heat and sunlight."

Harwood Takes Two

Valley City Legion played two last night, facing the Harwood Hogs at Charlie Brown Field. Throwing errors were the decided difference in the outcome.
Valley City went up in the first inning 3-0. A double from Hog Matt Dufner prompted a two-out Hog rally in the top of the second pushing two across the plate. Valley City was three-up, three-down in the bottom of the second.

Delta Starting New Service between Fargo, Atlanta

Delta Air Lines will add new nonstop seasonal service between Fargo, N.D. and Atlanta, effective Dec. 21.
“We continue to see growing demand in this marketplace, especially from customers wanting to connect to the Southeast and Latin America during the winter season,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s Managing Director – Domestic Network Planning. “With this new seasonal service, Fargo customers will have access to more than 200 nonstop destinations at the world’s largest single airline hub.”

Crazy Day Set for July 24

Valley City's annual street fair will be held later this month. Crazy Day will be held all day July 24 on Central Avenue in downtown Valley City.
Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce assistant Courtney Henkel said the fair will feature miscellaneous vendors and food vendors from area businesses and organizations along with a variety of activities.
