"It sure is pretty up here," Bruce Maynard said Tuesday afternoon as he hiked up a hill on the Kathryn Road with the cart he calls Sam. It wasn't the first time the Bellingham, Wash.-native has strolled up that same hill on the scenic byway. He was here about a year ago, during one of his many walks across the country.
During an interview Tuesday Maynard matter-of-factly said, "I'm just taking a stroll across America."
Barnes County's Alderman School has been added to the National Register of Historic Places, said Becky Heise, president of the Alderman School Historic Preservation Commission.
Tuesday Heise said the one-room school, which last operated during the 1958-59 school year, was added to the National Register June 26.

The Valley City Barnes County Public Library will be participating in this year's Crazy Day, Wednesday, July 24, serving coffee and rolls from Vicky's Viking Room from 8 a.m. to noon.
Prior to the coffee and rolls at the library will be Library Fun Day, set from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Hammel said.

Valley City Post #60 will host Kindred, in American Legion baseball action, tonight at Charlie Brown Field, in Valley City.
It's a double-header, starting a 6 p.m., with a seven inning first game, and a five inning second game.
