A Fargo man attempting to ice fish on Sanborn Lake 11:54 a.m. Tuesday fell through the ice into water up to his waist, and was so embarrassed he drove back home declining treatment, said Valley City Fire Chief Gary Retterath.
Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said Wednesday, “he went in the water up to his waist, got cold and declined treatment.”
McClaflin said he could not understand why anybody would try to ice fish on the last day of April. “I hope he won't repeat and it is a lesson learned.”

Valley City Public Schools superintendent Dean Koppelman announced in an email Tuesday the school district's plans if they have to make up a snow day.
The school board sent a request to the Department of Public Instruction and North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple's Office to waive having to makeup the missed day of school Monday, April 15. Koppelman said, "We may not have an answer to that request until the first part of next week."

12 Innings Weren't Enough

The NAIA Unaffiliated Baseball Tournament started Wednesday, and the first game was a barnburner. The Valley City State University Vikings took on the Dakota State Trojans. The Trojans came into the tournament seeded #5, and Vikings #4.
The morning game began quietly. A strong wind came in from right field, but had little affect on hitters later in the game. The Trojans scored once in the second inning, and again in the fourth. The Vikings put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, and then in the fifth, all heck broke loose with the bats.
