Kids See New Books

After listening to several books read by Valley City Auditor Avis Richter Wednesday, about 20 Valley City youngsters had a chance to see a large selection of new children's books the Valley City-Barnes County Library obtained with the help of a grant.
Hammel said all the books being obtained with the help of the grant from the Libri Foundation have now been received. The books include a wide selection of children's books, including books in braille, Hammel said. The 70 books are valued at about $1,070.

ALC Class of 2013 Graduates

The Valley City Adult Learning Center held its 2012 – 2013 Graduation on Thursday, May 16, at the Sheyenne Valley Area Career and Tech Center.
“This year’s graduation was particularly exciting because it is our biggest class by far for the ALC,” said Chantal Thiel, adult education instructor.

Police Seek Help with Arson Investigation

Valley City police are seeking information from the public regarding a dumpster fire in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 18. The fire, which police are investigating as a possible arson, was in a dumpster near the Lokken Field parking lot.
Anyone with information regarding the fire should contact the Valley City Police Department at (701) 845-3110.

Wimbledon Museum Opening for Summer

This weekend marks the seasonal opening of the Midland Continental Depot museum in Wimbledon, which opened last year to showcase the Midland Continental Railroad that was supposed to run from Winnepeg, Canada to Texas but never ended up crossing North Dakota borders.
The museum will open for the first time this summer over the Memorial Day weekend and will remain open daily until Labor Day from 1 to 4 p.m. and at other times by appointment.
