Storm Chaser Born in VC Witnessed Deadly Oklahoma Twister

A storm chaser who witnessed the violent, deadly tornado in an Oklahoma City suburb Monday was born in Valley City, and his mother taught at Valley City State University for a short time.
Ben McMillan was born July 27, 1981 in Valley City to mother Dale Bryner and father James McMillan. Bryner was a ceramics instructor at VCSU from 1981 to 1982, McMillan said during a phone interview Tuesday.
McMillan said he and other storm chasers who work with a website called Stormscapelive.tv, intercepted the massive tornado in Moore, Okla. Monday.

Stabbing Suspect Waives Extradition

A man arrested in Valley City Friday by Valley City Police will return to Minnesota to face assault charges after waiving extradition.
Zakariya Abdikarim, 26, waived extradition to Minnesota before Southeast Judicial District Court Judge James Hovey Monday. Abdikarim was charged with first and second degree assault in Minnesota for allegedly stabbing a man in Moorhead on May 5.

Heavy Rains Hit

Valley City is under a flood watch in low-lying areas as a result of light to moderate rain continuing across most of the region Monday.
With another one to two inches through Tuesday on top of some places that have already saturated ground, some local area flooding is possible. The rain will begin to taper off Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service, an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible through today on top of already saturated ground. Some overland area flooding is possible in low lying areas.

Local Band Opening at Street Dance

A young group of local musicians will perform for their hometown crowd as they open at the street dance during this year's Rally in the Valley community days. The band, called Three Card Molly, hopes to draw a large crowd and continue playing gigs throughout the summer.
The Valley City-based band will first play an all-ages "summer kick-off" show at Moon Lake southwest of Valley City on Friday, May 24 from 8 to 11 p.m., and then they'll perform from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Broken Spoke parking lot as the opening act to Twin Cities-based band 8 Foot 4 for the street dance.
