Barnes Kids Insured at Higher Rates

Nearly 10,000 children in North Dakota are without health insurance. while the number seems high, a study released by the North Dakota State University Extension Service and North Dakota KIDS COUNT indicates that North Dakota is actually doing a good job at insuring its children, and Barnes County is one of the counties with a lower rate of uninsured children.
A variety of state programs can help families provide medical care for children and ensure access to health, dental, and vision care to nearly every child in Barnes County.

VC, Maple Valley Schools Do Well At Science Olympiad

Close to 500 middle and high school students participated in Thursday's Regional Science Olympiad at Valley City State University, with winning teams advancing to state competition at Fargo.
The Valley City High School teams were coached by Cynthia Klabo and Dennis Friestad.

Nine Possible Voter Fraud Cases Flagged By Counties

The Secretary of State’s office and the state’s County Auditors recently completed the posting of voting credit to individuals in the state’s central voter file, which is a record of who has voted in state elections.
The process identified nine potential cases of voter fraud out of the 325,862 voters who cast ballots in last November’s election, said North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger.

Local Students Place in ND Duck Stamp Contest; Senior Wins Best of Show

Valley City High School senior high art teacher Kelly Callahan shares her passion for science, wildlife and art with her students every year in a contest that combines all three. Every year, VCHS students do well, and this year was no exception.
Destiny Winkler, a senior at Valley City High School, won the 2013 Best of Show in the North Dakota Junior Duck Stamp Contest, sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
