Mercy Hospital Gaining, Losing Under ER Plan

Valley City’s Mercy Hospital is losing all its physicians assistants at the same time it has reached an arrangement so that a physician will be in the building at all times to ensure full care in the Emergency Room, said Keith Heuser, hospital administrator, Tuesday.

BC Commissioners’ Conduct Questioned

The Barnes County Commissioners discussed a complaint about a 9-1-1 call and its handling by some members of the commission during its regular meeting on Tuesday.

Commissioner Eldred Knutson received a copy of an e-mail complaint regarding a 9-1-1 dispatcher’s professionalism. According to Knutson, he heard a tape of the call and an internal investigation had already been done by Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson, who supervises the 9-1-1 dispatch center. Thompson handled the issue in-house according to Knutson.

Mother, Children Escape Serious Injury in Rollover on Interstate

A 22-year-old mother and her two children received minor injuries during a mid-morning rollover Tuesday on Interstate 94, Wes Maley, trooper with the North Dakota Highway Patrol, said.

Chelsey Dehne, 22, of Tower City, and her 9-month-old and 2-year-old children were transported to Mercy Hospital in Valley City for minor injuries after Dehne lost control of her 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer near milemarker 285, by Hobart Lake, on I94.

VCHS Boys Lose to No. 1 Roughriders

The Valley City High School boys basketball team has had its ups and downs this season, with many of the peaks and valleys related to the team's shooting percentage.
It remained the case Tuesday at the Hi-Liner Activity Center, where the Hi-Liners struggled to find much of an offensive rhythm in an 82-42 loss to No. 1-ranked Red River.

VCSU Basketball Travels to Jamestown
The Valley City State University basketball teams continue their rivalry with Jamestown today at the Jamestown Civic Center.
The No. 19 Vikings and Jimmies play starting at 5:30 p.m., when the women's game tips off. The mens game starts at 7:30 p.m.
The mens teams from the schools have split the season series at 1-1 this year, with Valley City winning at home last week. The Viking women lost 81-64 to the Jimmies last week in their only meeting of the season.
