City Planning Permanent Flood Protection Around VCSU

Valley City's Flood Task Force met Tuesday to discuss permanent flood protection. The group received an update from Chad Petersen of city engineering firm KLJ about a proposed plan to build flood protection around the Valley City State University campus.
For the first phase of flood protection, the city plans to widen the floodway and install permanent and removable levees around the college campus from Third Avenue Southeast, up College Street, and over to and along Fifth Avenue Southwest. This area consists of land the city bought to build permanent flood protection.

Women's Group Changes Name

A long-time Valley City women's group has changed its name and dropped its affiliation so it can be more active, said club officer Bonnie Kramer Tuesday.
Kramer, treasurer of the newly-formed Women of the Valley, said VC Women of Today withdrew from state and national affiliation and have now reorganized.

VCHS Prepares for "Hello Dolly" Production

In preparation for the upcoming Valley City High School production of Hello, Dolly, several cast members and the entire VCHS Varsity Marching Band marched in a parade; not a real parade, but one that was videotaped for viewing during the Hello, Dolly performances. Director Carol Foth made arrangements for the parade to march directly in front of the Barnes County Courthouse.
Hello, Dolly, produced in cooperation with Tams-Witmark of New York, is scheduled to open on Nov. 19 and also run Nov. 21-23 in the VCHS Theater.

Fund Set Up for Fire Victims

October 10, 2013

A benefit fund has has set up at Dacotah Bank in Valley City for the Mark and Kristal Skramstad family, said Lee Isensee, one of the organizers of the fund Tuesday.
The Skramstad family home at 576 Fifth Ave. NE in Valley City received heavy smoke damage in an Oct. 4 blaze, said Valley City Fire Chief Gary Retterath Wednesday.
