November 23, 2012

After eight-and-a-half years as marketing director at Valley State University, Doug Anderson is having a hard time leaving the university, as well as the small city he has called home. But a new job as the Director of Media and Communications for the Minnesota State College and University System, based in his hometown of St. Paul, Minn. has him doing just that.
"Valley City is an outstanding place to live and work," he said. "You can become part of it, that's why it's hard to leave."

Hunter's 17 gets VCSU past Dickinson

November 20, 2012

When Valley City State University women's basketball coach Jill DeVries looked at the matchup between her team and Dickinson State University Saturday and thought her team could have some fun in the paint.
"We thought we could do some things with our post players because we're probably a litle quicker," DeVries said.
So as the Blue Hawks trapped Valley City's guards, leaving post players open, the Vikings capitalized, getting 29 combined points from Brittany Lehner and Kelsey Hunter in an 81-59 win at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in the teams' first encounter this season.

Missed shot puts VCSU men past Dickinson

November 20, 2012

As the Valley City State University mens basketball team left the floor following its 63-61 win over Dickinson State at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse, there was only a hint of the normal joy that comes with victory.
More than anything, there was disappointment that what seemed a sure victory — a 10-point lead with two minutes left — was ultimately decided by a missed buzzer beating 3-pointer from Dickinson's Anthony Hodges, on an open look from the corner that would have sent the Blue Hawks away with the win.

November 20, 2012

But that didn’t keep him from looking to the near future.

“To use the term ‘crossroads’ too often becomes cliche,” he told the crowd. “However, I sincerely believe we are at a crossroads at Valley City State University, and with this crossroad, we have a unique opportunity to transform our educational offerings.”
