LAMOURE, N.D. – Early in Friday's homecoming game with Edgeley/Kulm, LaMoure/Litchville-Marion football coach Andy DelaBarra just wanted his team to set the pace of the game.
And from the opening play of the game, the Loboes did just that, scoring just over a minute into the game on a 30-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jared Meiklejohn to sophomore running back Anthony Olson.
Whether they used wood or pine needles, paint or fabric, staff and tenants at The Legacy Place showed off their artistic abilities in a variety of techniques Friday during an “Art for the Ages” art exhibit open house.
The show consisted of a variety of artwork made by tenants and staff of The Legacy Place, an assisted living facility in Valley City.
Harmonica music echoed in the background as visitors viewed paintings, afghans, cookbooks, ceramics, crewel stitching, woodwork, crochet and pine needle artwork.
It has been weeks since the new press boxes have been mounted on the stands at Hannah Field, the home of the Valley City Hi-Liners. The boxes were built by students at the Sheyenne Valley Area Career and Tech Center as a project for last year’s construction class, and at the SVACTC Board meeting, Director Jeff Bopp said they are not done with them yet.
“We’ll be doing another small project there,” Bopp said.
A representative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture said that Valley City Public Schools has not only successfully positioned itself for new federal guidelines for school meals, but that the school’s new wellness policy and other initiatives go above and beyond what the government expects from a school lunch program.
“Where were you when my kids were in school?” USDA Regional Special Nutrition Programs Director Darlene Sanchez asked VCPS Food Service Director Sue Milender.

It usually happens when I’m the passenger in a car. It also shows itself when I’m quietly waiting to be called in to an appointment. The worst time is right before I’m ready to fall asleep. Wonder. Quite frankly, wonder appears most everywhere I go during my day. I don’t invite it along and just like a wood tick it attaches itself to me and comes along for the ride. It shows itself when I don’t really want it to.
The liquidation sale at Pamida will end Saturday, and the store will be closed for a week starting Sunday as remodeling goes into full swing to convert Pamida to a Shopko Hometown store.
The store will re-open Sept. 23, selling consumables, such as health and beauty items, over-the-counter medication, beverages, snacks and candy.
The remainder of Valley City’s store will not be fully-stocked when it opens again as the apparel and home departments will still need to be converted.
WEST FARGO, N.D.—The smell of popcorn and fried food and the roar of 1,000 conversations filled the air amidst the swirling mass of people attending the 32nd annual Big Iron Farm Show at the West Fargo Fairgrounds this week.
The show was expected to attract more than 800 exhibitors and vendors and more than 80,000 people from around the world.

Jansen Invite story

Every year, the Valley City High School cross country team hosts the Bill Jansen Invitational meet, and one thing never changes — the size.
"It's generally bigger than most of them," Valley City cross country coach Brian Engelhard said.
This year's race takes place 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bjornson Park Golf Course.
Over 500 runners from 30 schools across the state are signed up to race in the event, which runs junior high and junior varsity races as well.
MONTPELIER, N.D. — With only a handful of players with significant varsity experience and five with no varsity experience entering the season, it'd be easy to dismiss the Litchville-Marion/Montpelier volleyball team.
But even with an 0-10 record, it's a team that first-year coach Ryan Nelson believes the girls are onto something, even if the record isn't showing it.
"To come out the way we are playing, it's awesome," Nelson said. "We don't have a win yet, but we've gone four sets a couple of times now with teams that are supposed to be top dogs in our district.
