VC Sweeps MV in Volleyball

September 19, 2012

TOWER CITY — As the season has progressed for the Valley City High School volleyball team, sophomore Clarissa Olson has found herself in a variety of spots on the court.
But she's making the most of it, coming up with key kills up front but also getting crucial digs to help out defensively.
"She is coming around so much," Valley City coach Katy Van Dyke said. "She's young and she's been told what she needs to do. ... She soaks up that information and she uses it, then goes out there and does it."

The city approved a request from VDC for a portion of future sales tax revenue to secure financing for the new $31.6 million Guard facility.

The Barnes County Commission met Tuesday and among other things, appointed David Vareberg to the Barnes County Weed Board and Andre DeLorme to the Barnes County Park Board.

About 10 months ago DeLorme, a VCSU professor, was a possible pick for the Barnes County Water Resource District Board, and was supported by Commissioner Phil Leitner.

Commissioner Cindy Schwehr said she supported DeLorme for the park board.
“I really like him,” she said. “He’s passionate about that river... I like him, I’ve worked with some of the kids he teaches, they like him, he’s just a likable guy.”

Valley City’s brand new Shopko Hometown Store will open for the first time Sunday, Sept. 23, albeit on a limited basis, said assistant manager Sue Martin Monday.

Along with Sunday’s informal partial opening, a grand opening has been set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 18, when the fully stocked store will be open to the public for the first time, Martin said.

On Wednesday, Jack and Cody States of Indigo Sign Works were hard at work putting up massive signs announcing the new store name both just off the Main Street West frontage road and on the front of the building.
