VCHS Volleyball takes a different approach to the new season

When Valley City High School volleyball coach Katy Van Dyke entered the season, she set out to change things up.
From the general formula of practice to the way the team runs its 6-2 rotation, the Hi-Liners are building on familiar skills and adding a second defense to its repertoire.
"There's a lot more to what we've done in the past that we're going to do this year," Van Dyke said.
The Hi-Liners open the season today and Saturday with six matches at the Bismarck High/Bismarck Century Crossover tournament in Bismarck.

VCHS Tennis Hopes to Improve in EDC Play

The Valley City High School boys tennis team only won a single match last year against an Eastern Dakota Conference regional opponent, but they made it count.
After going winless against regional competition last season, the team beat Fargo South 3-2 in the regional tournament play-in match
"If you're going to get one victory, that's the victory to get," coach Matt Nielson said.
Though the team eventually lost in the regional tournament, it gave the team a starting point and this year the Hi-Liners hope to continue their growth in the EDC.

How is your pet feeling? This is an issue that all pet companions deal with every day: Has Fifi eaten? Is Spot active? Did Buddy meet me at the door? etc. As pet companions we all understand how important this “monitoring” can be. My golden retriever quit eating, didn’t sleep, and would not come in once she was outside. Something was wrong. I knew it and didn’t want to admit it. It looked serious to me so I took her in to the vet. Yep, she was very ill and had little time to live.

VCSU, Sodexo Unveil Cafeteria

Students spend much of their time on Valley City State University’s campus in classrooms, labs and athletic facilities, but students, together with faculty and staff, arguably spend most of their time at VCSU in the dining facilities located inside the student center.

The cafeteria, or simply, “The Caf,” which has been operated by catering company Sodexo Food Service for over 30 years, has recently undergone a $425,000 renovation and expansion in service.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday to unveil the new facillity.

Dalrymple Tours Valley City’s John Deere Plant

Gov. Jack Dalrymple late Tuesday toured the John Deere manufacturing plant in Valley City where company officials are in the process of hiring about 65 additional workers to meet the plant’s production workload.

 The John Deere Valley City Seeding Group currently employs about 320 people. Plant Manager David Bradford and other John Deere employees led Dalrymple and North Dakota Commerce Commissioner Al Anderson on a tour of the plant which manufactures crop seeders and tillage equipment.

No Injuries in Early Morning House Fires

The burning smell could be detected throughout downtown Valley City in the early morning hours on Wednesday, but only those in the vicinity of the 400 block of Fifth Avenue Southwest could identify the source.

State: No Off-Road Vehicles at Clausen Springs Park

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department will be posting signs at Clausen Springs prohibiting motorized, off-road vehicles anywhere in the park.

City Will Fix Traffic Lights, Pavement Markings in VC

August 22, 2012

The Valley City City Commission approved bids for the repair of malfunctioning traffic lights and improvement to pavement markings on concrete roads Monday during their regular meeting.

The city commission approved the low bid and awarded contract to Northstar Safety, Inc. for pavement marking improvements in the amount of $119,406.20. The project is funded by state highway money, which the city receives annually.

Barnes Ablaze Scattered Fires Give VCRFD a Busy Tuesday

A Canadian Pacific Railroad engineer sounded his train horn in support as five fire trucks from the Rogers and Valley City Rural Fire Departments battled a scattered fire a couple miles east of State Highway 1 in Stewart Township at about 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday. The crews would later be joined by a sixth engine from VCRFD as they fought the fourth fire reported in the county on Tuesday afternoon.

Faith In Action Launches ‘Community Coats’

Fargo TV station KVLY’s Coats for Kids program, which supplied winter coats for children in need during the early fall months, has ended after a 25-year run and 11 years of operation in Valley City.

However, due to Mercy Hospital’s Faith In Action and some local volunteers, Valley City kids – and now adults – will not have to go cold this winter.

Faith In Action Community Coats will offer donated coats at the old St. Paul’s Church on Fourth Street in southwest Valley City tentatively on Friday, Oct. 5, Saturday, Oct. 6, or both days.
