FARGO — The North Dakota State University football team finished the 2011 season on the best note imaginable when it beat Sam Houston State 17-6 to win its first national championship since moving to the NCAA Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision.
It was a win that meant plenty to then-sophomore wide receiver Ryan Smith, a Wahpeton native who grew up watching the Bison.
FARGO — When the North Dakota State University football team returned to camp last week, there was a noticeable change to the team's familiar digs.
Gate City Bank Field at The Fargodome is now sporting a brand new Astroturf GameDay Grass 3DH Stadium Surfacing football field turf surface, replacing old turf from years' past.
"It's going to be a great, great surface for us," NDSU football coach Craig Bohl said at the team's annual media day Friday. "It was about time we made a change and we appreciate the leadership in our community doing that."
