It's rare for a football game to be decided on a single play, but a match up between the Griggs/Barnes County and the Maple Valley/Enderlin Falcons is not an everyday occurrence.
An incomplete pass by the Titans sealed an 18-13 victory for MV/E in the season-opening non-regional contest on Friday in Tower City.
After the unsuccessful throw on fourth down and 11 yards from the goal line, the Falcons took a knee to run out the final 66 seconds of the game.
It was just over two years that Amy Foell Harbaugh passed away from cancer but the Valley City native and alumni of both VCHS and Valley City State University, is still fresh in the minds of local runners.
Saturday morning, Amy Wieser Willson, a friend and classmate of Harbaugh’s, was among those at the Sheyenne Valley Shuffle sporting an “Amy’s Team” t-shirt and helping raise money for a scholarship fund in her memory.
The caused finished front and center and Wieser Willson crossed the finish line at Lokken Stadium, winning the womens championship in the 10K race.
VCHS football cancelled
The Valley City High School football team will have to wait another week to start its season. Inclement weather Friday forced the Hi-Liners' season opener in Carrington to be cancelled. The Hi-Liners' season opener will now be 7 p.m. Friday at home against Dickinson Trinity.
VCHS Volleyball goes 1-5
The Valley City High School volleyball team opened its season with a 1-5 record at the Bismarck High-Century High invitational crossover tournament Friday and Saturday.
