Former Maple Valley/Enderlin boys basketball player Ty Smith and current Raider Jordan Haseleu helped lead the North Dakota Gold team to a win in the Flyin’ Hawaiian Classic basketball tournament June 26-July 2 on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.

Low-income residents get fresh local fruit and vegetables for their tables, and gardeners with an excess of produce have an appreciative recipient for the surplus.

City and Barnes county officials met with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thursday to talk about flooding issues in Valley City and along the Sheyenne River Valley.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Mississippi Valley Division Commander Maj. Gen. John Peabody and St. Paul District Commander Col. Michael Price visited a number of North Dakota communities this week, and Valley City was their last stop.
Entering Thursday's double header with Harwood, the Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball team wasn't too concerned about getting the sweep.
Instead, the team was focused solely on the first game, a 14-4 win in five innings that clinched the No.3 seed in next week's Section 1 tournament in Lidgerwood.
"We kind of had to win and stay out of Wahpeton's bracket," said Valley City infielder Josh Gilbertson.
It was a victory that kept the team from dwelling on a 9-0 no-hit loss in the second game, which largely used the team's reserves.

The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association’s reward fund for two cases of livestock shootings in the state has risen from a combined $2,000 to $14,100.
The organization has had standing rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person caught stealing, butchering or shooting cattle, horses or mules in the state since 1929.
NDSA Board Chairman Steve Brooks said there is a growing groundswell of citizen support for the victims of such crimes.
At 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday, local law enforcement was asked to help on a traffic stop on Interstate 94 westbound from Absaraka by two Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies.
The deputies had pulled over Kelly James Davis, 36, of Bend, Ore., on I-94. Police in Hutchinson, Minn., had issued an ‘attempt to locate’ on him after he allegedly shot rounds from a semi-automatic hand gun into the ground and air in a dispute with another man in Hutchinson. Davis left the scene in a white, Ford Shelby Mustang and law enforcement received word he was heading west to Oregon.
West Main Street in Valley City is lined with local businesses and swarming with traffic, but hidden behind a bounty of vines, shrubs and trees is a quaint photo studio and long-time business of Valley City called Matson’s Studio.
The owner of the studio, Ken Matson, has been a photographer in Valley City for 58 years. He retired last year at the age of 85.
Although retired, Matson’s passion for photography never ran out. He still shoots photos for fun and remains the family photographer.

Post 60 playing final home game
The Valley City Post 60 American Legion Baseball team finishes the regular season with a double header against Harwood at 5:30 p.m. today at Charlie Brown Memorial Field.
Post 60 was swept by Wahpeton in a double header Tuesday in Wahpeton. Valley City had only three hits in each game, losing 10-0 and 7-0, both in five innings.
In game one, Josh Gilbertson allowed 10 hits and 10 runs, five earned, as his defense allowed six errors in 4 1/3 innings. Jaden Keys, Josh Magnuson and Spencer Meyer all had hits in the game. Meyer's was a double.
