After losing eight straight games to start the season, it would have been seemingly easy to write off the Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball team.

"We started season 0-8 and not a lot of people expected us to be in this championship game, and we made a run and we got here," Valley City coach Jason Beilke said.

The expected number of riders was impacted a little by an early harvest. Instead of the 250 or so expected, there were maybe only 200. That’s 200 motorcyclists riding in the Fourth Annual Debbie Gabel Memorial Ride, this past Saturday.

The riders and a raffle for a brand-new Harley-Davidson motorcycle help raise nearly $60,000 for the Thundering Saints Inc. foundation, said ride organizer, Rocky Gabel, husband of the late Debbie for whom the ride and the foundation are dedicated.

During this year’s ride called “Bike MS: Sanford Health Ride the Wind,” participating cyclists started their route in Casselton, looped north through several small towns and Lake Ashtabula, and then turned south to head to Valley City, covering up to 140 miles.
