From Ronald McDonald House to Disney World

“Seeing Paityn’s face light up, watching how excited she was.” That’s how Angie Elston described her favorite memory from her family’s recent trip to Disney World.

Elston of Valley City is mother to four-year-old Paityn Elston whose dreams came true when she was granted a trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., by the Make-A-Wish North Dakota Foundation.

Vet groups plans for Memorial Day

Valley City’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and AMVETS chapter along with auxiliaries from all city veteran’s organizations will participate in this year’s Memorial Day observations in Valley City.

James Verwey, Barnes County Veterans Service Officer, said Monday along with the VFW and AMVETS organizations, auxiliaries from the VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Eagles will be involved.

Local law enforcement joins national blitz

It takes three seconds and it can save your life.

The Valley City Police Department and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office is participating in a seatbelt blitz as part of a national “Click It or Ticket” campaign that will run from May 21 to June 3.

“We write seatbelt citations throughout the year, but we won’t give any warnings for a two-week period here,” said Barnes County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Hager.

Valley City Police Sgt. David Swenson said in news release wearing a seat belt is the single most effective way to reduce motor vehicle fatalities.

Shanley beats Hi-Liners in extras

Valley City High School softball coach Jason Lindgren had mixed feelings on his team’s 7-6 regular season-ending loss to Fargo Shanley Monday at the Valley City State University softball complex.
There was plenty of good that came from it, but similarly some struggles. There were highs, lows, leads, comebacks. Not to mention the #3 seed in the Eastern Dakota Conference tournament was on the line.

VCHS golf qualifies 3 for state meet
The Valley City High School golf team qualified three team members for state and placed fourth in a meet Monday in Wahpeton.
The Hi-Liners finished with a team score of 307, tying with West Fargo, who took third on a tie breaker.
Nick Jenson and Ben Sorenson both shot a 75 to tie for sixth place, and though Jared Lentz’s 78 didn’t place him, he joined them with a state qualifying score.
Fargo Shanley won the meet with a score of 295. West Fargo’s Connor Holland and Shanley’s Thomas Strandemo won the meet with a score of 70.
