North Dakota’s new smoke-free law, passed by more than two-thirds of North Dakota voters, will take effect on Dec. 6. The new law strengthens North Dakota’s existing smoke-free law by making all public places smoke free.
For the second year in a row, deputies with the Barnes County Sheriff’s Department are working to make the holiday season a bit brighter for county families in need.
Deputy Scott Crump said he and fellow deputy Don Fiebiger started Deputy Secret Santas in 2011, to benefit families in Barnes County. “We specialize in families in need with financial burdens.”
The emergency room nurses at Mercy Hospital were recently honored for their efforts in talking with families about tissue donation.
The group was given the 2012 tissue partner of the year award from LifeSource, a nonprofit organ and tissue donation organization that serves North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
In October, hospital administrator Keith Heuser attended the North Dakota Hospital Association annual meeting.
