St. Catherineâs Christmas Concert is a traditional way that people in Valley City start the holiday season, according to Christopher Redfearn, Director of Choral Activities at Valley City State University.
The free concert will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Catherineâs Church in Valley City.
âAs soon as you hit December, everybodyâs schedule just becomes very crazy,â Redfearn said. âWe like putting this concert early in the season so that people can get into the holiday spirit.â
The Barnes County Food Pantry is appreciative of all the local efforts from businesses, churches, schools, churches and individuals who have helped so far this season, but is still in need of food and monetary donations.
Jo Ann Korf, site manager for the Senior Citizen Center which operates the food pantry, said Monday dollar donations and more food are still needed.
Korf said the demand for services has increased in recent months, âand our fund is down.â
Barnes County Commissioners appointed Beth Didier as county auditor during a special meeting on Monday.
Didier, who lives near Eckelson, is currently employed at the Valley City USDA office as a rural development loan specialist. Didier has a business degree from Valley City State University and worked at the Barnes County Auditorâs office as deputy auditor for nine years. In 2002, Didier ran for the office of auditor but was unsuccessful. This will be a homecoming for Didier, she said.
